On July 31, 2020, the completion and opening ceremony of the Beidou-3 global satellite navigation system was held in Beijing. General Secretary Xi Jinping attended the ceremony and announced the official opening of the Beidou-3 global satellite navigation system. This marks that China has built an independent, open and compatible global satellite navigation system, and China Beidou has since embarked on the stage of the times of serving the world and benefiting mankind. When visiting the exhibition of the development achievements of the Beidou system construction, General Secretary Xi Jinping pointed out that in the past 26 years, all the personnel involved in the development and construction of the Beidou system have faced difficulties, dared to fight hard battles, continued to struggle, carried forward the spirit of "two bombs and one satellite", and cultivated the Beidou spirit in the new era.

As early as the 1970s, pioneers engaged in "two bombs and one satellite" already recognized the importance of satellite navigation and positioning systems. The construction of an autonomous satellite navigation system is of very special strategic significance to enhancing a country's international status, promoting national economic development, ensuring economic and social security, and safeguarding national defense security.

In 1994, the development of China's independent Beidou satellite navigation system became a major strategic decision made by the country this year. At that time, the United States GPS and the Russian GLONAS each launched more than 20 satellites, and the global networking was completed.

In the process of development and construction of the Beidou system, the whole line of the project has always adhered to the actual national conditions, followed the principle of "autonomy, openness, compatibility and gradualness", and explored a development path with Chinese characteristics from scratch, from existence to excellence, from active to passive, from regional to global.

In 2000, Beidou-1 quickly built a dual-satellite positioning system with both positioning timing and short message communication services, making China the third country in the world with a satellite navigation system after the United States and Russia.

In December 2012, the Beidou satellite navigation system officially provided regional services, and the Beidou system became one of the four core suppliers of global satellite navigation systems; in November 2017, the first group of double satellites of the Beidou-3 system was launched; in December 2018, the construction of the Beidou-3 basic system was completed to provide services to the world; in December 2019, the deployment of the Beidou-3 core network constellation was completed; in June 2020, in less than 3 years, the beidou-3 global satellite navigation system constellation deployment was fully completed. The compatibility and interoperability of Beidou with the United States, Russia and European satellite navigation systems continue to deepen: on the basis of reaching a consensus on frequency compatibility with GPS, a cooperation mechanism has been formally established to jointly promote the development of civil satellite navigation technology; the coordination of satellite navigation frequencies has been completed with Galileo Galilei; the two major systems have been successfully tested with GLONASs, and the prospect of jointly building a satellite cluster with compatibility and higher precision is promising... One of the four satellites embedded in the logo of the United Nations International Committee on Global Navigation Satellite Systems represents China's Beidou.

Nowadays, the "circle of friends" of Beidou is getting bigger and bigger, and the Beidou system is promoting global economic and social development, and the Beidou system has made great contributions in the peaceful use of outer space and participation in international cooperation in United Nations space activities.

In a key stand-alone test of the 9th satellite of Beidou-3, the overall chief designer found that a key indicator exceeded the standard, and the deviation was less than 1 nanosecond. 1 nanosecond is shorter than a billionth of a second, and it is difficult to describe with "moment" and "moment". Although the investigation will add a lot of work, if there is a quality hazard behind 1 nanosecond that affects the entire project, it must not be ignored. The beidou team's excellence and strictness have added another insurance to the overall success of the Beidou-3 mission.

The Beidou system fully serves all walks of life such as transportation, public safety, disaster relief and mitigation, agriculture, forestry, animal husbandry and fishery, and urban governance, and integrates into the national core infrastructure such as electricity, finance, and communications, and the comprehensive benefits continue to appear.

With the official opening of the Beidou-3 system, the "global era" belonging to Beidou has further arrived, and any place in the world can enjoy the open, free, high-quality navigation, positioning and timing services of the Beidou system.
