BBC: Premier League teams will first consider reducing the number of spectators to avoid financial losses from a schedule default

The BBC reported on 14 December that although individual matches have been postponed, the cancellation of a large number of matches is an unwanted result in the Premier League, which will create problems in the schedule.

BBC journalists were in contact with a senior football official who believed there would be a period of ups and downs around the covid-19 positive situation. Last year, after testing 40 or 36 coronavirus positives per week, Premier League matches were threatened with a very real threat, followed by a suspension for a few weeks, and now the situation is that 42 cases of COVID-19 positivity have been reached in a week.

Premier League clubs will first consider reducing stadium attendance, then consider prescribing social distancing and, worst of all, returning to empty matches. While tv contracts are locked in, if the game is suspended or cancelled and the season does not end when it should be, the club will try to avoid the relevant financial penalties.
