On December 14th, the High Performance Computing Center of Shanghai Jiaotong University was officially inaugurated by Yang Yuanqing, a 1981 alumnus of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering of Shanghai Jiaotong University and the chairman and CEO of Lenovo Group. This set of high-performance computing equipment is named "Siyuan No. 1", which can calculate up to 600 trillion times per second, and its computing power is the 1st in Chinese universities and 132nd in the global top 500 high-performance computers.

The total computing power of the "Siyuan-1" high-performance computer is 60 quadrillion times per second (double precision). In the list of the world's TOP500 high-performance computers released in November this year, the computing power of "Siyuan No. 1" ranked 132nd, surpassing that of International Famous Universities such as Harvard and Cambridge. In the list of China's top 100 high-performance computing, it ranks 12th, and Chinese universities rank first in high-performance computing.

In addition to the first computing power of Chinese universities, "Siyuan No. 1" also has three major technical characteristics: ultra-high computing density and power consumption density, green energy saving, and energy recyclability.

In terms of computing density, the computing density of "Siyuan-1" is 5 times that of the general data center, and the required computer room area is less than 1/10 of the general data center; in terms of green energy saving, the average PUE (energy efficiency ratio) of China's data center is 1.9, and "Siyuan-1" adopts the fifth-generation warm water cooling technology, the energy efficiency ratio is 1.1, which can save 42% of electricity and carbon dioxide emissions compared with the traditional air-cooled heat dissipation scheme; in terms of energy utilization, waste heat recovery technology is used to generate waste heat in the process of computer computing. It can be used for winter heating in the spherical hall of the institute, hot water heating in the canteen kitchen, dehumidification in the basement, and air conditioning temperature control in the laboratory, achieving an additional carbon offset of 950 tons per year.

On April 10, 2021, during the 125th week celebration of Shanghai Jiaotong University, Yang Yuanqing announced in his speech at the school celebration ceremony that he would personally invest 100 million yuan to donate a first-class green water-cooled high-performance computing center for his alma mater using Lenovo's most advanced products and technologies, which has now taken eight months to build, and the "Yang Yuanqing Scientific Computing Center" was officially inaugurated in the experimental building of li zhengdao research institute in Zhangjiang Science City of Shanghai Jiaotong University.

The Lee Jeong-do Institute was established at the instigation of the famous physicist Lee Jeong-do. In December 2014, Li Zhengdao wrote a letter to the central leadership, proposing to establish a world-class research institute in China with reference to the Bohr Institute, which has a huge impact on the development of world science, to attract a group of the world's top scientists, form an academic atmosphere of free exploration, train a group of top scientists belonging to China, and promote the major development of physics and its interdisciplinary research.

On November 30, 2016, the Lee Zheng Dao Research Institute was established at Shanghai Jiao Tong University. Among the first scientists to be introduced was the 2004 Nobel Laureate in Physics, Frank Wilczek. In September 2017, Frank Wilczek was appointed as the first director of the Lee Jeong-do Institute. On April 7, 2018, Li Zhengdao became the honorary director of the Li Zhengdao Research Institute of Shanghai Jiao Tong University. On December 3, 2021, Zhang Jie, former president of Shanghai Jiaotong University and academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, was officially appointed as the new director of the Li Zhengdao Research Institute.

The Yang Yuanqing Scientific Computing Center of Shanghai Jiaotong University is located in the experimental building of the Li Zhengdao Research Institute in Zhangjiang Science City. The experimental building of Li Zhengdao Research Institute was officially opened on December 3, 2021, and has gathered a number of research teams led by academic masters, attracting a group of young talents with vitality in scientific and technological innovation, and carrying out original basic research in a number of cutting-edge fields around the research directions of particle and nuclear physics, astronomy and astrophysics, and quantum basic science, and the construction of experimental platforms is steadily advancing. And the scientific research in these fields is precisely the one that needs the support of high-performance computing the most.

After the unveiling ceremony, Lenovo Group signed a strategic cooperation agreement with Shanghai Jiao Tong University. Lenovo Group plans to spend 200 million yuan in the next three years to work together with Shanghai Jiaotong University in the three fields of scientific research, talent training and new technology incubation.

It is reported that 100 million yuan will be used for the research and development of new computing, new equipment, new materials and new energy and the talent training plan of Jiaotong University. Lenovo Group and Jiaotong University will jointly set up a special fund for industry-university-research cooperation to provide special fund funding for scientific research projects declared by Jiaotong masters and students. The two sides also plan to establish a joint research and development platform to carry out joint research and development of core technology and engineering issues, as well as the transformation of scientific and technological achievements and the declaration of major projects.

Another 100 million yuan will be used for the incubation of new technologies, Lenovo plans to set up the "Lenovo-Jiaotong University Venture Fund", through advanced market-oriented means, to provide incubation assistance, venture capital and employment support for Jiaotong University's entrepreneurial innovation projects, and explore and build an innovation and entrepreneurship cooperation mechanism with Jiaotong University, promote the transformation and industrialization of Jiaotong University's scientific and technological achievements, and provide a complete set of entrepreneurial incubation and investment services for Jiaotong University's entrepreneurial projects.
