It is reported that Volkswagen's plant in Salzgitter, Germany, will be put into operation in 2025, and it plans to invest about 2 billion euros for the mass production of its own battery packs after the start of production. At the same time, Volkswagen will also build a large number of gigafactories in Spain and Eastern Europe, and will decide on the location of two gigafactories in the first half of 2022, and plans to open two battery pack factories in Europe in 2030. In addition, over the next five years, Volkswagen will invest around 52 billion euros in the development and production of new electric vehicles.

It is worth mentioning that Volkswagen CEO Diesse recently said that Volkswagen is ready to sell or list the battery division separately, or there may be the possibility of introducing external partners. If successfully listed, the battery division is expected to achieve sales of 20 billion euros by 2030. To avoid being affected by supply chain shortages, Volkswagen also announced three battery partners: Umicore, 24M Technologies, and Vulcan Energy Resources Ltd.
