Legends and stories
According to legend, there was a farmer in the Qin Dynasty who suddenly had abdominal pain and diarrhea, covered his stomach and went to a distant place to seek medical treatment. On the way, he suddenly fainted and fell to the ground, just as an old man with white hair passed by on crutches, asked why, pointed to a kind of weed on the side of the road with his cane and said, "The rhizome of this grass can cure your disease." When he finished, he drifted away. The farmer ate the weeds according to the instructions of the white-haired old man, and sure enough, the abdominal pain soon subsided, the number of diarrhea decreased, and after a few days the disease was cured. The next year, many people in the village were dysentery, and the farmer came to the original place with a hoe, dug up several large bundles of weeds of the kind he had eaten, and fried soup for the villagers to drink, and sure enough, the effect was very good. When the villagers asked about the origin of the herb, the farmer recounted the past of the old man who happened to meet him. Since then, in order to commemorate the old man with the white head, people have named this herb "white head".
