Author: Huizhou Dermatology Hospital Pharmacist Liao Xiaofang

Antimicrobials

It is widely used in clinical anti-infection antibacterial drugs, anti-tuberculosis drugs, anti-leprosy drugs, antifungal drugs and antiviral drugs, etc., and the daily contact with the public is more antibacterial drugs.

Why stop overuse and abuse of antimicrobials?

Many people will eat cephalosporin or amoxicillin (antibiotics) as soon as they have a fever and cough and a sore throat. Treat antibiotics as a "panacea" without knowing the serious consequences of antibiotic resistance caused by the misuse of antibiotics.

When we first use antibacterial drugs, antibacterial drugs can kill bacteria, but some strong resistance bacteria are lucky to survive, and the rest are "strong" bacteria, and these "strong" bacteria multiply and grow in large quantities; when we use antibacterial drugs again, the resistance of bacteria will become stronger and stronger, and the effect of antibacterial drugs will be worse and worse. This is what we usually call bacterial resistance.

Antimicrobial resistance occurs when bacteria, viruses, fungi, and parasites act against drugs, making some common infections more difficult to treat and increasing the risk of disease transmission, severe illness, and death.

Water can carry boats or overturn boats, and long-term antibiotics may produce super resistant bacteria.

700,000 people are reported to die each year from antimicrobial resistance infections, and it is estimated that by 2050, 1 person will die every 3 seconds.

What can we do?

1. Do not buy antibacterial drugs at will

Antimicrobials are prescription drugs that are purchased and taken with a doctor's prescription.

For example: do not buy antibacterial drugs for treatment after a cold, about 90% of colds are caused by viruses, and antibacterial drugs are ineffective; for a small number of colds caused by bacteria, it is also necessary to pass the examination to use suitable antibacterial drugs.

2. Need medical advice when you are sick

Before taking antibacterial drugs, be sure to consult a medical professional, and after a doctor's professional diagnosis, you can determine whether you need antibacterial drugs and which one you need. Complete the treatment even if you feel better.

3. Develop good living habits

Wash your hands frequently, maintain hygiene, avoid getting infected with bacteria; practice safe sex.

4. Improve the body's immunity

Exercise more, strengthen the body, enhance autoimmunity.

5. Vaccination

Ensure that you and your family receive the necessary vaccines in a timely manner
