On December 12, in a table tennis hall in Baishazhou, Wuhan, a one-armed boy waved a racket, and the white ping-pong ball swirled in an arc. Like him, there are 15 people with disabilities here who often come here for free to play.
This stadium, founded by a retired military soldier, has been popular with table tennis enthusiasts since its opening in September 2020, including many disabled people. However, due to the impact of the epidemic, the business of the stadium has been poor, with a monthly loss of about 2,000 yuan. Despite this, the owner of the stadium, Chen Qiang, still gives free to disabled people who come to play.
At about 2 p.m. on the 12th, the Jimu News reporter saw at the scene that the stadium area was about 750 square meters, with a total of 10 tables, and each table had people playing. The one-armed boy surnamed Yan is a regular visitor here, he is no different from ordinary people when he plays, the opponent is also a regular player, a mixed doubles match, he and his teammates won.
Mr. Yan said that the stadium has 1 retired member of the national team and 5 retired players of the provincial team as coaches, attracting many table tennis enthusiasts.
"I also came here and started to run a membership, but the stadium later refunded the membership fee to me, and posted an announcement to the effect that the disabled came to play, all for free." Mr. Yan said that there are 15 disabled golfers who often come here, and there are 30 or 40 who occasionally come, and they don't want money.
"After retiring from the army, I started a business and earned some money, and my family was OK, and I could withstand a loss of 2,000 yuan per month." I believe that the epidemic prevention situation will improve, and this venue will also make money. In this case, as long as the venue is still open, as long as they come, I will always be free. Chen Qiang said that he loves table tennis, so he spent money to run this venue, and he was also very touched to see the disabled to do membership, this kind of quality of not accepting defeat, self-reliance, strength and upward mobility, so he was very educated, so he had the idea of "free opening to the disabled".
