Handanović said: "I am a person who does not like to announce decisions on social media, but I have told the people around me about the [retirement] decision. Although I am in good physical condition and it is no problem to play for another 1 year, it is normal to think about retiring at this age, I do not regret my decision, after so many years, it is time to put family first: I am satisfied and happy with myself, and now is the right time to stop. ”
Commenting on where he will go after retiring, Handa said: "I think sooner or later I will become a coach, not a goalkeeper coach, but a coach who is responsible for all aspects. I and Inter are willing to continue working together on the basis of a new role and have the conditions to achieve this, in addition to this, I have a higher vision when I think about things, which is to think more about Inter's interests. ”
The 39-year-old joined Inter from Udinese in 2012 for a transfer fee of 15 million euros, and in his 11 years at Inter, he made a total of 455 appearances for Inter and kept 166 clean sheets.
Handa ranks 10th in Inter history in appearances and the second most foreign player in Serie A history (562), behind Zanetti (615 games, all for the Nerazzurri).
