Before the Battle of Kinmen, Deputy Commander Xiao Feng proposed "three no fights"! Unfortunately it was not accepted

On October 25, 1949, the Battle of The Liberation of Kinmen, commanded by Xiao Feng, deputy commander (acting commander) of the 28th Army of the Tenth Corps of the People's Liberation Army, ended in the total annihilation of the army.

For this battle, there are many reflections later. In fact, just before the campaign was launched, Xiao Feng, as a specific commander, had proposed the principle of "three no fights" to the Tenth Corps three times, but unfortunately it was not accepted.

What's going on here?

Xiao Feng had a habit of keeping a diary during his military career, which he recorded in his diary on October 17:

"Over the past 20 days or so, I have made 3 face-to-face proposals, 18 telegram proposals, and 8 written proposals to the Corps, and the following three conditions must be met before the attack can be attacked:

1. A division of the gate garrison with cash does not exceed 12,000, and if the Number of Hu Lian Regiments increases, it will not fight;

2. Carriers that do not have enough 6 regiments (the first time to carry 12,000 people) will not fight;

Third, 3,000 boatmen and sailors will be drawn from the northern Jiangsu region of Shandong Province, and the personnel will not fight until they are not available.

However, Ye and Liu did not attach much importance to my suggestion, so I had to report to the Corps and the Former Committee again. The troops are still actively preparing and training sailors. According to statistics, there are less than 120 existing ships. (Chronicle of the Battle of the Golden Gate, p191)

In order to persuade Xiao Feng and Li Mancun, director of the military political department, the next day the corps commander Ye Fei and the director of the political department Liu Peishan and they invited the corps to talk for two or three hours.

During the conversation, Xiao Feng, because there were not enough ships, once again proposed to the head of the corps that Kinmen Island was more than ten or twenty miles away from the mainland, and the water depth was large, unlike Xiamen Island, which was only one or two kilometers away from the mainland. We have less than 120 ships, not enough to transport 2 regiments, the enemy does not know how much to increase troops, the conditions for attacking gold are insufficient, and it is difficult to launch a battle quickly.

Liu Peishan said: "The 28th Army should resolutely implement the decision of the corps, seize the fighter plane, and liberate Kinmen as soon as possible." ”

Others also said that the Golden Gate defenders were already frightened birds, and persuaded Xiao Feng and Li Mancun to fight.

However, after talking for two or three hours, Commander Ye Fei urged them to fight quickly, while Xiao Feng said that it was more difficult and could not talk closely. Finally, Xiao Feng's diary records:

"Ye Fei was angry: 'Is the 28th Army full of food and unwilling to fight the last battle on the mainland?'

Speaking of which, I can't say more. (Chronicle of the Battle of the Golden Gate, p193)

In this way, Xiao Feng's "three no fights" suggestion was not accepted, which eventually led to the defeat of the Battle of Kinmen.
