How was earth born? What is a beautiful meteor shower? What are the geological treasures in Hubei? On the morning of December 12, 50 young reporters from the Chutian Metropolis Daily small press corps came to the Hubei Geological Museum located on Liji North Road in Jianghan District to explore the mysteries of the universe.

"About 5 billion years ago, a cloud of interstellar dust called the 'Primordial Solar Nebula' began to collapse in gravity, and as its volume became smaller, the temperature increased, and the density increased, a nuclear fusion reaction of hydrogen to nitrogen occurred, thus forming our sun... Earth is a blue planet with life in the solar system. The young reporters first came to the Hall of Earth Evolution, and under the guidance of the docents, sat on the "time machine" and witnessed the birth of the earth from billions of years ago.

Earth model

The giant transverse model of the Earth in the hall attracted young journalists to stop. "Teacher, what is the circle in the middle of the earth?" A small reporter asked questions. "The red one in the middle is the core of the earth, and to the outside is the mantle and crust." According to the narrator, the earth's interior is composed of three circles of the earth's crust, mantle and core, and the circle above the ground is called the outer circle of the earth, and the outermost layer of the earth is the atmosphere, and within it is the hydrosphere, lithosphere and biosphere, and it is the interaction between these different circles that makes life on the earth exist and continue.

Actinic iron meteorites

"Have the children ever made a wish when a meteor shower crossed the night sky?" Do you know what a meteor shower really is? According to the narrator, the original meteor shower is an ablation luminescence phenomenon that occurs when many meteoroids in space enter the atmosphere, and most of these meteoroids come from the same radiation point. When they are ablated, some of them will fall to the ground and become extraterrestrial visitors - meteorites. The large number of meteorites of different sizes displayed in the museum attracted the attention of young reporters. Among them, the largest piece is an actinic iron meteorite weighing more than 276 kilograms. This meteorite comes from a meteorite rain in Laohekou City (formerly Gwanghwa County) in Hubei Province in 1976, which is not only the largest meteorite in Hubei Geological Museum, but also one of the largest iron meteorites in the National Geological Museum.

Dinosaur Magic Flip Book Interactive Experience

"I am Gu's little thief, with four wings, and I am a flying dinosaur." In the Hall of Life Evolution, young journalists interact with different kinds of dinosaurs through the "Dinosaur Magic Flip Book". Dinosaur fossils, elephant fossils, leaves and birds growing in stones... From land to sea, creatures to plants, entities to relics, the rich fossil collection amazed young journalists, "It's so cool!" ”

"'Fossil' is a general term for the remains and remains of animals and plants buried in rock formations from the geological history period." According to the docent, Hubei Province is an important paleontological fossil production area and a classic area for stratigraphic paleontological research in China, and thousands of invertebrates, vertebrates and ancient plant fossils have been found in more than 30 categories. Among them, there are rich types of invertebrate fossils, and the most representative ones are the Miaohe macroalgae fossil group, the Xilingxia marine macrosophyllic biological fossil group and the Qingjiang biota, which are of great significance for the study of the evolution of early life on earth.

Fossils of plants and animals

Finally, the young reporters came to the Department of Resources and Environment to learn about Jingchu rich minerals, non-metallic minerals and applications, mineral classification, Hubei Geopark and geological relics.

"It turned out that the vast universe was only a small point at the beginning, and after the Big Bang, the solar system and the Earth on which we now live gradually emerged. The docent teacher said that the wind, snow, rain, rivers, seas, mountains and rivers constitute our beautiful home, in the vast cosmic space, this is only a small probability event. Therefore, we should strive to love and cherish the earth and protect our homeland. Zhang Yimo, a 7-year-old young reporter, sighed.

Wang Zeyue, a young journalist, said that the Hubei Geological Museum contains many treasures that he has not seen before. "I can't wait to tell my classmates about the treasure I saw today, and next time I want to ask my classmates to come here to explore the secrets."

It is reported that the newly transformed Hubei Geological Museum will be opened to the public at the end of this month, when the general public can make an appointment to visit.
