The man took the elevator after paying a certain drunk, hit the control panel with his fist to cause the elevator to stop suddenly, tried to break the door through violence, and forcibly pulled the elevator door open with his bare hands, but only saw a wall.

On December 7, a reporter from The Paper (www.thepaper.cn) learned from the Shanghai Jing'an District People's Procuratorate that recently, the court prosecuted a certain person for picking quarrels and provoking trouble.

Fu was sentenced to three years in prison in 2011 for intentional injury. In June 2021, in his 30s, he came to Shanghai from other places to "beg for a living". At about 21:00 on August 24, after Fu drank a pound of liquor and two bottles of beer, he pulled three friends from the same building downstairs to find a place to chat, and as a result, in the elevator, the drunken Fu could not control himself, and suddenly hit the elevator control motherboard part that was running normally with his fist, causing the elevator to stop suddenly.

During the period when the elevator stopped running, Fu repeatedly hit with his fist, kicked the elevator door with his foot, controlled the motherboard and other parts, and tried several times to pull the elevator door open with his bare hands, which took a lot of effort, and the elevator door was forcibly opened by Fu. But after pulling it open, he found that the elevator hovered between the first and second floors, opposite a wall. In the meantime, the three people in the same ride repeatedly advised Fu to stop the excessive behavior, Fu ignored it, and in desperation, the three could only let Fu punch and kick the elevator.

After 70 minutes, the police, fire, property and elevator company emergency repair personnel who arrived at the scene rescued the four people from the sweltering elevator shaft.

In the process of repairing the elevator, the emergency repair personnel found that the elevator had traces of man-made damage, so they contacted the property to check the elevator monitoring to confirm that the elevator failure was caused by paying someone for the destruction. After arriving at the case, Fu confessed to his criminal facts and expressed "great regret".

After review, the procurator in charge of the case held that Fu X, in order to vent his emotions, had nothing to do, arbitrarily damaged public and private property (the price of the elevator was determined by the Development and Reform Commission to lose more than 5,000 yuan), undermined social order, the circumstances were serious, his behavior had violated the criminal law, and he should be investigated for criminal responsibility for the crime of picking quarrels and provoking troubles. On November 26, 2021, the Jing'an District Procuratorate indicted him.
