He was the son of his father Ji Rongshu and the third step-in-law, so Ji Xiaolan had a half-brother named Ji Qinghu, and their age gap was nineteen years.
In the past, those large families paid attention to the distinction between concubines, and brothers and sisters were also distant and distant, but in the shuxiang mendi of Cui Zhuang Jishi, this was not the case.
Ji Rongshu once said: "The world is ever-changing, and those who govern the family can deal with it in peace." ”

In the face of this son who has been smart since he was a child but can't keep his heart mischievous, Ji Rongshu, as a father, knows in his heart that the effect of reasoning with him is about equal to zero, so he chooses to tell a story first.
One day, Ji Rongshu talked to a ragged man at his door, and then called out to Ji Xiaolan and asked him to give him a salute.
When Ji Xiaolan saw that this person was like a beggar, he was naturally a little strange and reluctant.
Ji Rongshu said to him, "In the last years of the former dynasty, there was a military disturbance everywhere, and your great-grandfather was only eleven years old, unfortunately living in the rebel army, thanks to the rescue of this brother Tai's great-grandfather, he was able to survive." I haven't heard from his family for a long time, and I didn't expect to finally see someone today. ”
Subsequently, Ji Xiaolan saw his father leave this person behind and properly arranged his livelihood for him.
Ji Rongshu's story hides the truth that you need to know how to be a human being. He made Ji Xiaolan understand that the teacher is a preacher and a friend has the friendship of the same window, and the monk you mock as a "bald donkey" is a monk with a happy heart.
Sometimes, if you hurt those who are good to you in order to be happy for yourself, will someone be true to you in the future when you need help?
After that, Ji Xiaolan really tightened his mind, seriously accumulated academic strength, and greeted the autumn three years later.
In 1747, Ji Xiaolan was appointed as the first Xie Yuan.
As a rule, the person in the township examination could participate in the examination presided over by the Ministry of Ceremonies in the second year, and just when Ji Xiaolan stepped into the Gongyuan with great ambition, what was waiting for him was a famous sun mountain.

In the face of his discouraged son, Ji Rongshu calmly said, "Do you remember what your father told you, what else do people need to know besides reading?" ”
Ji Xiaolan replied: "When children are not studying, they should also make them know a little about family affairs and world affairs, and then they can govern their families and get involved in the world." ”
Ji Rongshu nodded,
Tell you a story for your father, in the fifteenth year of Ming Chongzhen, the hejian military turmoil, when everyone was preparing to go out of the city to take refuge, and when your two great-uncles were packing their bags at the door, they suddenly heard a neighbor old man pointing at the door god and saying: "If there are military generals like these two Tang Dynasty lieutenants Chi Jingde and Qin Qiong today, the country will not fall to such a point." ”
Your two great-uncles were young talents, and when they heard the words, they argued with people, saying, "This god is Shendi and Yulei!" ”
The old man was not convinced, went back to the house to find "Journey to the West" as evidence, your two great-uncles believed that they had read a lot, saying that "Journey to the West" was a last-rate novel, which was not enough to rely on, so they went into the house and checked out Dongfang Shuo's "Divine Anomaly" and continued to debate with the old man.
It was already very late, they turned over books and argued, came and went to the city gate to close, and the next day they wanted to leave again, but they had already come to the city and lost their lives.
Ji Rongshu told his son:
Reading is for the sake of the world, not for you to trap yourself in it.
If you fail the examination, you can take the exam again, but if people don't know how to get out of the predicament and know no matter how much reason, they won't be able to live this life.
Ji Xiaolan, who has been precipitated, is no longer entangled in past failures, but enjoys the fun in the process of studying and meets friends. And six years later, in the imperial examination, he ranked fourth in the second class and entered the Hanlin Academy.
As a father, Ji Rongshu never blames things first, but uses stories to let children understand that the road you have traveled, others have walked, when you know the ending, how to make changes?
In fact, education is never given in the way of the self, but in a way that the child can accept.
In 1763, Ji Xiaolan took up his post at the Fuzhou Examination Institute, from a candidate to an examiner.
There are two ancient trees of the Tang Dynasty full of aura in the examination courtyard, and the local officials say that the examiners must worship before the examination, and it is said that they are Zhuyi people, and when they read the papers, but whenever they nod, the scrolls will be taken.
Ji Xiaolan recalled that when he was young, his teacher Li Ruolong had failed to pass the exam eight times, and he said with emotion that the test site was actually unfair, and whether a person was poor or not was destined.
When he talked to his father about this matter, he was severely criticized: "If the dragon is a soldier who should be lifted, it is just a matter of complaining, and you, as the chief examiner, listen to this fatalistic theory to prevaricate the candidates, it is a big mistake!" ”
If there is a person in this world who can make Ji Xiaolan, who has iron teeth and copper teeth, be dumbfounded, it must be his father Ji Rongshu.
Later, when Ji Xiaolan was in charge of the writing, he was cautious about the correction and selection of the examination papers, he himself relied on the examination to enter the army, and he was well aware of the hardships along the way, so he was even more cherished for the talented candidates, even the fallen scholars, they would seriously make criticisms and encouragements in their papers.
So much so that when these students who failed to enter the high school examination again, they all went to the door to thank him and performed the gift of discipleship.
During the years when Ji Xiaolan was an official, he was deeply influenced by his father Ji Rongshu, and he was able to run through his life with honesty and integrity, and he could not do without the last lesson given to him by his father.
Ji Rongshu, who was nearly eighty years old at the time, went to Fuzhou to visit his son and heard him talk about the rumors of the haunting of the school office. He said, "Where are the ghosts?" I didn't believe it and put my bed in a haunted room! ”
Ji Xiaolan advised his father not to fight with ghosts as soon as he was old.
But the father said:
In a person's heart, there is a frank side, this is the yang, there is a sinister side, this is the yin; there is a straight side, it is for the yang, there is a crooked side, that is the yin.
"As long as people have a bright and upright intention, then even if there is a ghostly yin qi, they will be afraid of your yang qi!"
At that moment, Ji Xiaolan was like a dream person who was awakened, as long as he was full of yang qi, how could he be afraid of being invaded by the outside world.
Ji Xiaolan's energy in this life was concentrated on the "Outline of the Four Libraries of the Whole Book", and in his later years, he began to write a miscellaneous book called "Notes on Reading Wei Caotang".
He used more than 1,200 stories in this book, borrowing ghosts and monsters to talk about the world, and was known as "the clear bell of dreams and the treasure raft of lost jin".
Lu Xun once said: "Ji Xiaolan is very admirable: He was born in the era when law and discipline were the strictest in Qianlong, and he dared to use articles to attack the unintelligible etiquette and absurd customs in society. ”
It was such a courageous man, like his father, who hid the truth in these stories that later people loved to hear, and told them until the age of eighty-two.
