On November 13, Zhang Jinbang, Yang Min, Zhang Yu and Liu Yu of the Kunming Natural Resources Comprehensive Survey Center of the China Geological Survey took equipment from Zhangpen Village, Zhidong Town, Zhenyuan County, Pu'er City, Yunnan Province, to investigate the mountain. Unfortunately, the four were unable to return home as scheduled and were found dead.

The cause of the four deaths is currently in a variety of places, while the official investigation is still under investigation, and the results have not yet been announced. According to media reports, rescuers and relevant experts believe that it is likely that the equipment is lost due to strong magnetic field interference, and the victim himself does not recognize the danger, and the temperature loss accident leads to the death.

However, Wang Yunsheng, a professor at Chengdu University of Technology who has been conducting geological surveys in various places for a long time, has proposed another possibility: these four people may have been killed due to unknown gas poisoning in the mountains.

Wang Yunsheng said that Ailao Mountain is located in the active fault zone, and it is not excluded that harmful gases such as carbon dioxide spilled along the fault zone, or other source gases, such as gases emerging from the leaflet layer. At the time of the incident, the forest in the mountain was dense, there was a lot of rain and fog, and the harmful gases were not easy to spread within a certain period of time. When 4 people enter an area filled with harmful gases, they may not feel it at first, but as the inhalation of harmful gases increases, people will lose their ability to save themselves.

The reason for proposing this possibility hypothesis, Wang Yunsheng analyzed, first, if it is really subjected to strong electromagnetic interference, it only means that the signal there is not good and the signal cannot be sent, but this does not prevent the opening of the RTK. The actual situation is that the 4 experienced investigators were equipped with 4 instruments, and none of them opened them, indicating that the 4 people had lost the ability to call for help at that time.

Second, for some people to put forward the speculation that the loss of temperature caused the death, Wang Yunsheng said that if the nerve damage after poisoning may lead to the undressing action, but only 1 person in this incident has undressed performance, 3 people are wearing storm jackets, and the possibility of death caused by the loss of temperature is also difficult to explain.

Third, the news reported that these people had no signs of struggle and fighting, and there was still food that had not yet been eaten, so the possibility of food shortages and animal attacks could be basically ruled out, which showed that the 4 people were likely to lose their self-help or distress ability due to harmful gas poisoning.

Wang Yunsheng said that looking at the data shows that there have been incidents of large-scale spillage of carbon dioxide gas in foreign countries, resulting in mass casualties. He suggested that geological surveyors entering the mountains could be equipped with additional toxic gas detectors to avoid unnecessary casualties.
