Shanghai, 22 Nov (Xinhua) -- The award ceremony of the 13th Fu Lei Translation and Publication Award (Fu Lei Award) was held at the Fu Lei Library in Zhoupu Town, Pudong New Area, Shanghai on 20 November.
Among the ten shortlisted works, Zhang Wen's translation of "The Test of Exoticism: Culture and Translation in the German Romantic Period" won the social science award, and Huang Yaqin's translation of "Boy" won the literary award. The "Newcomer Award" was awarded to Wang Xian, the translator of "Return to The Hometown".
French Ambassador to China Luo Liang said that in recent years, China has been France's first partner in the publishing industry, and the Fu Lei Award is an important platform for gathering people in the book industry. "Not only are there authors of books and publishers who are committed to introducing foreign language books, but also as translators of 'ferrymen', it is a key role. What they accomplish is the transition from one language to another, from one literature to another, from one culture to another. He said.

Dong Qiang, chairman of the Fu Lei Award Organizing Committee, said that the award ceremony held in Zhoupu, Fu Lei's hometown, made him feel a lot of emotions. He said that over the past ten years, the Fu Lei Award has received more than 600 entries, and 20 or 30 outstanding translators have emerged, becoming an excellent backbone of the translation industry, which undoubtedly benefits from Mr. Fu Lei's exemplary spirit.
The Fu Lei Translation and Publication Award was established by the French Embassy in China in 2009 to promote the translation and dissemination of French literature and academic works in China. Each year, the Fu Lei Prize selects two of the best Chinese translations from French, one for literature and one for social sciences, and in 2013, the Newcomer Award has been established.
