When it comes to Wang Yangming's famous words, the most popular ones are "the way of the saints, I am self-sufficient" after the enlightenment of longchang, and "this heart is bright, and what is the word". The eight characters before and after each can be described as a pearl of words, which mean a lot, echo at the beginning and end, and are consistent from beginning to end.
There is almost no dispute about the former, and the latter is basically unified from the market point of view. However, it has to be said that the resonance of the latter has a great tendency to be "idealized".
In fact, there are two other versions of Wang Yangming's last words, but many works on Wang Yangming have never been mentioned, so that everyone will feel surprised when they are spoken. And these three versions are all well-founded, and I really dare not say that which one must be true. Next, we will serve them together for your reference.
As we all know, Wang Yangming died of illness on the way back to his hometown. Before Wang Yangming accepted the task of suppressing bandits in Guangxi, he was not allowed to resign due to illness. I had to reluctantly complete the appointment of the imperial court with a difficult illness, but after all, the tossing and turning was too strong, and the illness worsened, so that it reached the point where his life was at stake.
According to historical records, Wang Yangming was "swollen and poisonous, panting day and night, eating badly, swallowing several spoonfuls of thin porridge every day, and vomiting a little more." And the water and diarrhea increased, and the number of days and nights could not be stopped, and so far the two feet could not sit still..."
At this time, Wang Yangming twice wrote to request that he resign from his official post and return to his hometown to recuperate, but he did not receive the approval of the imperial court. In desperation, he had no choice but to "leave his post without authorization" and return to his hometown by boat with his disciples. 
Because of this, after Wang Yangming's death, the imperial court not only did not remember his merits, but also revoked his title for the crime of "leaving his post without authorization", and regarded his doctrine as a pseudo-science.
Of course, later they were also given the correct name, the so-called "real gold is not afraid of fire refining". When the boat sailed to the Qinglongpu Wharf in Dayu County, An' Nan' Jiangxi Province, Wang Yangming felt that he was about to die. The time was around 8:00 a.m. on January 9, 1529 A.D.
At the time of his death, Wang Yangming asked the boy to call the only disciple, Zhou Ji, who was still around, into the cabin, and then slowly opened his eyes and said to him: "I will go." Zhou Ji cried silently and asked mr. Wang Yangming what his last words were, and Wang Yangming smiled: "This heart is bright, and it is also what he says." Then his eyes passed away in delight.
This version is recorded in the Annals III of volume 34 of the Complete Book of Wang Wencheng. It was compiled by Qian Dehong, one of Wang Yangming's highest feet and one of his closest disciples.
This version is also the most versatile version on the market, and there is almost no doubt about it. Because it is also in line with Wang Yang's poem "Mid-Autumn Festival" in the next night: "My heart has its own bright moon, and the reunion of the ages will never be flawed." ”
This version may be the most convincing to disciples and scholars because it can best show Wang Yangming's bright and upright life, so it is most admired by disciples and scholars, the so-called "life is so far, what does the husband want". However, after watching the last two versions, although there is no such a lofty realm, it always gives people an inexplicable sense of "intimacy".
This version is contained in "Mourning in the Book of Guixi", and what I can't understand is why the content is completely different, which is also compiled by Qian Dehong, Wang Yangming's proud protégé. This version records that when Wang Yangming was dying, he asked the waiter, "How far away is it from Nankang?" ”
The waiter replied, "There are still three stations away." ”
Wang Yangming said, "I'm afraid it's too late." ”
The waiter said, "Wang Fangbo prepared a coffin to accompany him, but he did not dare to let me tell you." After Wang Yangming listened, he dressed neatly and sat precariously against the boy before he opened his eyes and said, "Qu Neng is thinking of evil!" After saying that, "Whiskers breathe." 
"Canal energy is the thought of evil" means "how can there be such a thought?" It is also very interesting to think about, people are not dead before the coffin is prepared, Wang Yangming said that there is a bit of "human common sense".
I can't help but think of a similar story in the Analects: the sub-disease, the sub-path makes the disciples subject. During the illness, he said, "Kuya, yuchi's deception!" There are no subjects, but there are subjects. Who am I to deceive? Bullshit! And instead of dying at the hands of his subjects, Wu Ning died at the hands of the second and third sons! And even if you can't be buried, you can't die on the road? ”
The translation is: Confucius was seriously ill, and Zilu asked Confucius's students to act as courtiers to prepare for the funeral. When Confucius's illness got better, he was greatly annoyed when he learned of this: "Zhongyou has not been doing this kind of fraudulent thing for a day or two!" I pretended to be a vassal without a courtier (according to the Zhou Li, Confucius was not eligible to enjoy the doctor's "Family Minister Funeral Committee" ceremony at that time). Who am I deceiving? Deceitful to Heaven! Moreover, instead of dying at the hands of my courtiers, I should die at the hands of you students! And even if I can't be buried according to the doctor's specifications, will I die on the road? ”
Of course, after Wang Yangming said the sentence "Canal energy is to read evil", there was no following. Whether there is a profound philosophy in this may only be based on speculation.
This version is recorded in the "Behavior of Mr. Wang Yangming", and the author is Wang Yangming's other high-footed Huang Xuan. It is said in the book that Wang Yangming went to Nankang County on the twenty-ninth day, and had a premonition that he did not have much time, so he instructed him to purchase mourning clothes.
When the boy asked him what his will was, Wang Yangming said, "He has no thoughts, he has only seen a few points in his life's learning, and he has not been able to form a common form with our party, which is hateful!" After saying that, "pass away."
This version can obviously be seen that Wang Yangming believes that his learning has just made some progress, but he cannot improve it together with his disciples, and he has some "regrets" in his heart. Compared with the first version of "This Heart Is Bright, What Is The Truth", the two do not seem to be in the same grade. However, Huang Xuan was a different person than other disciples. To put it mildly, it is somewhat similar to "traitor to the king's gate".
Huang Xuan was deeply influenced by Zhu Xue in his early years, and after learning from Wang Yangming, he turned to Wang Xue. Even in order to defend the king, he had the style of a "protector of the Law", and repeatedly debated with people. As a result, Wang Yangming weighed it down and called it "the good of our party, and there is no one who can match it." However, it was also this "best disciple" who, in his later years, became the "pioneer" who most fiercely opposed Wang Xue.
Huang Xie criticized Wang Xue as a copy of Zen Buddhism, and said with some experience: "If you lose the will of the saints, you will be harmed, and you must not argue." To believe in the beginning, to believe in it, and to test it over time, only to know the evils of emptiness is not to be detailed. Believe it? The difference is a millimeter, the fallacy is thousands of miles, but it can be careless! ”
However, when Huang Xuan wrote "Mr. Wang Yangming's Behavior", it seems that he was not so reactionary. Therefore, whether there is a bias component in this is unknown. But what is certain is that Wang Yangming's last words are really difficult to determine.
Even Wang Yangming's iron fan, the Japanese great Confucian Okada Takehiko, said in his masterpiece "The Great Biography of Wang Yangming" that he spent twenty-five years writing: Whether "this heart is bright and what is said" is Wang Yangming's last words is also doubtful.
