Early life
Emperor Xiaozhuang's son, Zi Yanda, was the grandson of Emperor Xianwen Tuoba Hong, the third son of King Yuanxun of Pengcheng, whose mother was Li Yuanhua (李媛華), the founding duke of Wucheng County.
In the second year of Xiaochang (526), he was enfeoffed as the King of Changle. He successively served as Zhongshu Shilang, Chengmen Lieutenant, Huangmen Shilang, Scattered Horse Changshi, Yushi Lieutenant, Shizhong, General of the Chinese Army, General of Wei, Zuo Guanglu, and Zhongshu Supervisor.
Succeeded to the throne as emperor
In order to prevent the crown prince's mother from interfering in politics in the future as the empress dowager, the Northern Wei Dynasty drew on the story of Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty who gave death to Lady Hook Yi, forming a barbaric tradition: after the crown prince was established, he wanted to kill the prince's biological mother. Until the eighth emperor of northern Wei, Emperor Xuanwu Yuan Kezhi's son Yuan Xue became crown prince, Yuan Xue's mother Hu Chonghua was not executed, breaking the barbaric system tradition. Empress Hu poisoned her parents, which was not only vicious and cruel, but also stupid. Just at that time, Concubine Yuan gave birth to a daughter, Yuan Girl. Empress Dowager Hu falsely claimed to have given birth to a boy and made the baby girl emperor. Empress Dowager Hu knew that she could not hide it, and soon announced that "the so-called crown prince is originally an imperial daughter." Yuan Zhao, a nephew of the Yuan Dynasty and only 3 years old, was appointed emperor, and the world was in an uproar.
Such a major event was so dramatic that Empress Dowager Hu took politics too simply. Erzhu Rong, the chief of the Qihu tribe, first attacked, declaring that he would trace the cause of emperor Yuan Xue's death, while not acknowledging Empress Hu's court.
Erzhu Rong consulted with Shi Yuantianmu and planned to make Yuan Ziyou, who was "known for his hopes", emperor, so he sent his nephew Erzhu Tianguang and others to infiltrate Luoyang, secretly meet with Yuan Ziyou, and tell Erzhu Rong's plan to abolish the establishment, and Yuan Ziyou agreed. After Erzhu Tianguang returned to Jinyang, Erzhu Rong still hesitated, so he cast bronze statues of Emperor Xianwen's descendants, and as a result, only the bronze statue of Yuan Ziyou was successfully cast, and Erzhu Rong made up his mind to support Yuan Ziyou.
In the first year of Wutai (528), in the summer of April, Yuan Ziyou and his brother crossed the river at night; Ding You, who met Erzhu Rong at Heyang; Wu Shu, xiang Nanji River, that is, the throne. Then, Erzhu Rong went to the outskirts to greet the new emperor Yuan Ziyou, lured the Wenwu officials to Taozhu in Heyin (present-day Xiaolangdi of the Yellow River), surrounded them with cavalry regiments, and declared the guilt: "It is your responsibility that the country is in turmoil!" Later, the governor Gao Huan persuaded Erzhu Rong to be proclaimed emperor, and Erzhu Rong also had this intention, so he ordered his cronies to put the new emperor Yuan Ziyou under house arrest. Erzhu dictatorship

In danger
Erzhu Rongquan fell to the opposition, the careerists in the official arena ran to Jinyang, and Erzhu Rong recommended officials in large numbers. However, Yuan Ziyou knew that the land of Henan was the capital for his own turnaround, and he must not give way to Erzhu Rong again, so he very categorically refused Erzhu Rong's request to seek an official position for his henchmen. Erzhu Rong did not have a dead heart and continued to instruct Yuan Tianmu to reiterate this unreasonable request to Yuan Ziyou.
In the face of Yuan Tianmu's bitter compulsion, Yuan Ziyou still stubbornly held on to the bottom line. Yuan Tianmu saw that the lobbying could not be achieved, and finally became angry and said a great rebellious word: "The Pillar of Heaven has great merits, and is the prime minister of the country, if you ask the general to be the official of the world, I am afraid that Your Majesty will not be able to violate it, how to recommend several people as state officials, but do not use it?" ”。 In the face of this naked threat, Yuan Ziyou did not show weakness in the slightest, tit-for-tat: "If Erzhu Rong is not a subject, replace me with him; if he also has the festival of courtiers, there is no reason to replace the world's hundred officials!" Yuan Ziyou expressed his determination in anger: as long as I am still the emperor, this country and mountains are mine; if Erzhu Rong wants to be the emperor, then simply take it, I will not be so willing to be a puppet.
When Erzhu Rong saw that his temptation had failed, he was enraged and uttered the words in his heart: "Who shall establish the Son of Heaven?" I don't need to speak today! However, due to the fact that the world was not stable at that time, Erzhu Rongshang did not dare to act rashly. Taking advantage of the peace in Guanzhong, Erzhu Rong once again issued a temptation and said to the imperial court: "Xu Zhou, who joined the army, persuaded his subjects to take the nine tins, and the ministers hated their words and sent them away." "Since the founding of the Northern Wei Dynasty, no one has enjoyed such a reward.
Erzhu Rong was not satisfied with the position of Grand General of the Heavenly Pillar, and he knew that after receiving the gift of the Nine Tins, he was only one step away from the imperial throne, so he made this request to Yuan Ziyou. But Erzhu Rong also knew the weight of this request, so he also spoke very euphemistically.
In the face of Erzhu Rong's repeated stone throwing to ask for directions, Yuan Ziyou was even more disgusted and hated, and immediately fell off the donkey, praising Erzhu Rong for doing a good job and being a courtier, leaving him with no illusions. Tremble in the balance
In August of the third year of Yong'an (530), Erzhu Tianguang pacified Guanlong, and Erzhu Rong wanted to use this to create a new meritorious service, on the grounds that the empress was about to give birth, and wanted to enter the capital to worship. As soon as this word was heard, the whole government and the public were shaken: this time, he actually entered Beijing on the pretext of visiting his daughter, and everyone was unconvinced, believing that Erzhu Rong's trip must be deeply hidden in a huge conspiracy.
For Luoyang, it is undoubtedly earthquake-like news, and the people of the whole city are worried and uneasy. As soon as the news of Erzhu Rong came out, the cowards such as Xing Shao, the Zhongshu waiter, had already left the city and rushed eastward. The cronies around Yuan Ziyou were also extremely sensitive to the news. Yuanhui the Prince of Chengyang, Li Yu of shizhong, and others tried their best to persuade Yuan Ziyou to take advantage of this opportunity to send troops to assassinate Erzhu Rong. The cautious King Yuanhuiye of Jiyin and others believed that if Erzhu Rong came to Luoyang, he would definitely take precautions, and if he was assassinated, it would be difficult to succeed. Some people even offered to fight erzhu Rong hard, first killing all his henchmen in Luoyang and then sending troops to resist. In the face of everyone's disagreement, Yuan Ziyou had no opinion and was full of doubts.
Because Erzhu Rong had too many eyeliners in the dprk, Yuan Ziyou's assassination was so well known to everyone in the city. Erzhu Rong's eyeliner left in Luoyang - Erzhu Shilong heard about the emperor's plot, and quickly forged an anonymous letter himself: Tianzi and Yang Kan, Gao Daomu, and others planned to kill Tianzhu. Then he quickly sent it to Jinyang to present it to Erzhu Rong, urging him to think twice.
At this time, Erzhu Rong still had two words of fear in his heart, Yuan Ziyou was already a caged bird in his eyes, in addition to being tied up and grabbed, who dared to have two hearts? He tore the letter to shreds and scolded him profusely: "Shilong has no courage, who dares to have a heart!" Erzhu Shilong had abandoned the Tiger Prison pass to escape, causing his brother Erzhu Shicheng to be captured and cut by Liang Junsheng, and his reputation as timid as a rat had long been rumored in the world, so Erzhu Rong did not care about his advice-this time he had to go, he had to cut off all the branches and leaves that stood in his way to the emperor.
Erzhu Rong set out from Jinyang with four or five thousand cavalry. In the face of Erzhu Rong's persecution, the young and vigorous Yuan Ziyou knew that he had no way back, and at this time his impulse overcame his fear and was eager to act. Another powerful general of Ke'er Zhu Rong, Yuan Tianmu, was in Hezhou at this time, and once Luoyang changed, he was bound to send troops to rebel, and then the imperial court would have no troops to stop. Yuan Ziyou had to suppress the anger in his heart and made up a reason to trick Yuan Tianmu into Luoyang and prepare to get rid of it as well.
King Yuanhui of Chengyang told Yuan Ziyou that Erzhu Rong would have a greedy act of establishing a child: if the empress gave birth to a child, the emperor would be deposed and the child would be abolished; if she had a daughter, she would make Erzhu Rong's younger son-in-law Chen Liu Wang Yuankuan (Yuan Ziyou's nephew) emperor. Yuan Ziyou realized that he had become a thorn in Erzhu Rong's eye.
At this time, Erzhu Rong's actions made Yuan Ziyou believe his own speculations. At this sensitive time, Erzhu Rong and Yuan Tianmu actually played: "Recently, the attendants have not practiced martial arts, and Your Majesty should ride five hundred out of the hunt, because the province resigned from litigation." "This is obviously a plan to turn the tiger away from the mountain!" Yuan Ziyou was not stupid, and the eyeliner he had arranged for Erzhu Rong had already told him: Erzhu Rong wanted to take advantage of the hunt to hold Tianzi hostage and move the capital. These things made Yuan Ziyou believe that Erzhu Rong would undoubtedly oppose himself, that he was in danger, and that victory or defeat depended only on who could preemptively take the lead and take the first step.
Preemptive
Yuan Ziyou relied on Yuan Hui, Yang Kan, Gao Daomu, and others of the Northern Wei Emperor," and there were almost no soldiers in his hands, and such an assassination operation was tantamount to fighting with the heavily armed Erzhu Rong. However, even if the assassination was successful, only these thousands of Qihu warriors in Luoyang City could crush the Northern Wei court, so this imminent step should be clearly considered before the assassination.
Yuan Ziyou co-opted The Wuwei general Xi Yi, whom Erzhu Rong had placed beside him, and before Erzhu Rong entered Luo, he had repeatedly sent him to communicate with Yuan Ziyou, and he had a very good relationship with Yuanziyou. Xi Yi had repeatedly said in front of Yuan Ziyou that "it is better for a subject to die than to do anything about Qihu", but Yuan Ziyou, who is like a bird of fright, has always dared not believe it, so as not to fall into the trap set by Erzhu Rong. However, Xi Yi persevered, and finally impressed Yuan Ziyou with absolute sincerity, and identified him as his confidant, as a strong backing for the resistance of the Qihu warriors in Luoyang city after the elimination of Erzhu Rong.
Yuan Ziyou, who had made up his mind, summoned Wen Zisheng, a member of the Zhongshu She, to inform him that he would immediately get rid of Erzhu Rong, and asked in detail about the removal of Dong Zhuo by the Eastern Han court for reference and emulation. After listening to Wen Zisheng's 1510 confessions, Yuan Ziyou finally said such a heroic word: "The reason for the transformation is known to Qing. Death must be done, but there is no need to die! Wu Ning died for the Noble Township Duke (曹髦), not for the Changdao Township Duke (曹奂). Since wang yun and others have learned from the past, Yuan Ziyou must make his deployment more proper, so as not to repeat the same mistakes. He was ready to get rid of only Erzhu Rong and Yuan Tianmu, and the rest of Erzhu Shilong, Sima Ziru, and other Erzhu henchmen were all pardoned, and Yuan Hui, Yang Kan, and others also fully agreed.
The details of the assassination were also discussed very carefully, and they were ready to first trick Erzhu Rong and Yuan Tianmu into the palace, and then ambush the soldiers, rush up, and hack them to death; in order to ensure the safety of Yuan Ziyou, once the troops were dispatched, Yuan Ziyou should immediately come out of the other gate to prevent Erzhu Rong from raiding, and hide a sharp blade on his body for self-defense. The opportunity came in the blink of an eye.
On the day that Yuan Ziyou buried the ambush soldiers in the palace, Erzhu Rong and Yuan Tianmu came to see Tianzi, but just after the third round of wine, Erzhu Rong seemed to smell the danger, so he and Yuan Tianmu hurriedly left. Yang Kan and the others who had been ambushed in advance did not get news for a while, and when they arrived in a hurry, it was already too late. After the loss of this opportunity, the whole situation was extremely passive, and Yuan Ziyou almost reached the point of exhaustion. Because the personnel involved in the conspiracy were too mixed, and Erzhu Rong's eyeliner was many, after the assassination failed, the news was immediately leaked, and rumors began to circulate outside the palace.
Behead the courtiers
On the fourth day, Erzhu Rong entered the palace again. After deliberating, everyone buried an ambush in the Mingguang Hall. Yuan Hui rushed to Erzhu Rong's mansion, and it was rumored that the empress had given birth to a son, and invited him, as a grandfather, to visit him in the palace. Yuan Ziyou heard that this plan worked, and then he was discolored. However, wen Zisheng, a literati on the side, could hold his breath, afraid that waiting would make Erzhu Rong see the flaws, and reminded Yuan Ziyou: "Your Majesty has lost his color." ”
Erzhu Rong was very surprised to see Wen Zisheng holding the Holy Will in his hand, so he asked, "What is the document?" At this moment, once Erzhu Rong saw the flaw, yuan ziyou's side would destroy the entire army. Wen Zisheng, on the other hand, was surprisingly calm and said plainly, "Pardon Wen! At this time, Erzhu Rong was dizzy again, and seeing that his grandson was eager, he did not continue to ask who the pardon was for, but went straight to the palace, and passed by this last chance to save himself.
Yuan Ziyou sat uneasily in the east direction of the palace, and Erzhu Rong and Yuan Tianmu were only a few feet away from him. After a long greeting from the emperor, Yuan Hui suddenly entered and bowed to Yuan Ziyou. This worship was a code of action, and at this time, the ambushed Guanglu Shaoqing Lu An and the Dian yu Lie kanxi immediately drew their knives and attacked from the East Gate. After all, Erzhu Rong was a man who had been in battle for a long time, and his eyes were fast, and he immediately pounced on Yuan Ziyou to make a final attempt.
Emperor Xiaozhuang had already prepared a knife on his lap, and when he saw Erzhu Rong rush up, he stabbed straight into his abdomen, and a generation of tyrants were killed in response. Those arranged killers saw Tianzi take matters into their own hands, and they rushed up and slashed at the same time, killing Erzhu Rong and Yuan Tianmu. Outside the palace, Erzhu Rong's son Erzhu Bodhi and others were also killed by ambush soldiers. As soon as the news of Erzhu Rong's death came out, the entire luoyang city rejoiced, and hundreds of officials entered the palace to pay tribute. Yuan Ziyou was ecstatic, personally ascended the door and granted amnesty to the world.
Under siege
Hearing that Erzhu Rong had been killed, Erzhu Rong's henchmen in the city rushed to the residence of General Tianzhu to discuss. Erzhu Rong's subordinate Tian Yi learned that the defense of the palace was very weak and easy to break, and seeing that the crowd was indignant, he suggested directly capturing the palace. Once this proposal was accepted by everyone, Yuan Ziyou and others could only stand still.
At this moment, He Basheng stepped forward and vigorously defied the crowd: "Since the Son of Heaven has done great things, he must be prepared." My generation is small, how can it be light! But out of the city, more than he plans. Although He Basheng was known to Erzhu Rong, he was more loyal to the imperial court, and as soon as he said this, he temporarily saved Yuan Ziyou's life.
He Basheng was heroic, and the crowd had always believed in him. Since such brave people thought it was inevitable, no one insisted on taking this dangerous move. At this time, the dragons were leaderless, and the only one who could make a decision was the least courageous person in the Erzhu family, Erzhu Shilong. In times of crisis, he will always insist on one option — escape. He gathered the Qihu warriors in the city, took Erzhu Rong's wife and children, and took advantage of the night to burn the Xiyang Gate in Luoyang, hurriedly led his troops to seize the gate and fled to Heyin without stopping.
In fact, the military strength in Luocheng is weak, and they are not practicing martial arts, as long as Erzhu Shilong judges the situation a little and tests the virtual reality of Yuan Ziyou, Luoyang City can be easily occupied. However, Erzhu Shilong, who was as timid as a rat, gave up this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and chose to escape. With the "help" of He Basheng and Erzhu Shilong, Yuan Ziyou temporarily escaped the disaster.
Erzhu Shilong fled, and Yuan Ziyou sent the Wuwei general Xi Yi and others to defend the northern central city and prevent it from moving south. After taking a breath in Heyin, Erzhu Shilong prepared to continue running wildly and fled back to his hometown in Hezhou. But this time, he was persuaded by his Sima Ziru. Sima Ziru had always been scheming, and he was well aware of the strength in Luoyang City. He believed that at this critical moment, once they fled, the world would be separated, and it would be difficult for the Erzhu family to make a comeback; they should take advantage of the panic in the capital and when Yuan Ziyou's foothold was unstable, and once again returned to Luoyang, killing him unprepared. Erzhu Shilong saw that his analysis was the head of the Dao, so he returned to the army to kill the north of Zhongcheng.
Although the Qihu warriors are leaderless, they are all brave warriors who have experienced hundreds of battles. Under their attack, the north and middle cities defended by Xi Yi were like paper paste, which was broken as soon as they attacked, and Xi Yi was also captured and killed. When the Northern Wei court heard this fear, Yuan Ziyou hurriedly extended an olive branch and sent someone to Erzhu Shilong to comfort him. After the victory of this battle, Erzhu Shilongzhi was full of pride and revenge, and immediately beheaded the future to show the public, in order to show his heart to break with the imperial court, and then he sent Erzhu Dulu to Luoyang City to ask for Erzhu Rong's corpse. Erzhu Dulu and his party rode more than a thousand horses, all dressed in white, and slaughtered towards Luoyang City.
Fight to the death
Seeing that the Qihu soldiers were gathered under the city, Yuan Zi was suffering from the lack of soldiers to fight, so he had to lay down the dignity of the Son of Heaven, personally ascended the Luoyang City Tower, and began to persuade the surrender: "The King of Taiyuan, Erzhu Rong, has not made a final contribution, plotted to usurp the throne, and has been severely punished." As long as you surrender and serve the country, the officials will remain the same. At this time, the Soldiers of Qihu were full of vengeance and indignation, and this kind of false and empty blank cheque was useless.
Erzhu Dulu made a generous statement under the city: "The ministers and others entered the dynasty from the king of Taiyuan, and suddenly caused injustice, and now they cannot bear to return empty." May the king of Taiyuan be corpse, and there is no hatred in life and death. This sentence was extremely painful, and before the words were finished, Erzhu Dulu suddenly choked up and mourned. As soon as these words came out, the chehu warriors who followed Erzhu Rong's birth and death also shed tears and cried under the city, and the scene was extremely shocking.
When the yuanzi in the city saw this scene, he also recalled the various benefits of Erzhu Rong and burst into tears for it. What was supposed to be a fierce battle turned into a memorial service for both sides in order to remember the same person. But after crying, the two sides are still enemies who do not share the same heaven. Yuan Zi saw that the empty talk was invalid, and sent his subordinates to give Erzhu Shilong a death-free iron coupon to show his sincerity. At this time, Erzhu Shilong saw that there was no courage in the city, and he was even more arrogant: "I avenge the King of Taiyuan, and there is no reason to surrender in the end." ”

At the moment of crisis, Li Miao, a regular attendant of Tong Zhisan, stepped forward and made a generous statement in the court: "There is an unexpected danger in the imperial court, and it is the day when the loyal martyrs serve the festival." Yuan Zi had no choice but to see that someone was willing to sacrifice his life for the country, and he rushed to accept it.
