Balzac ran straight to the target, seizing on modern society for hand-to-hand combat. He pulled something from all sides, there were illusions, there was hope, there were shouts, there were false masks. He digs into his heart and dissects passion. He explores the abyss of man, soul, heart, gut, mind, and individual man. Because of his gift for freedom and strong nature, because of his ingenuity of our time, Balzac, through the revolution, saw more of what is the end of mankind and what is unintentional. So with a smile on his face, he calmly conducted a daunting study, but still with ease. His research is not as melancholy as Molière's, nor as cynical as Rousseau's.
