Li Shizhen's father Li Yanwen, zi yu, number moon pond. Born in 1483, a Ming Dynasty physician, a native of Puchun, Hubei, Li Yanwen lived in the wadu dam outside the east gate of Puzhou City, and the Li family was a famous large household in puzhou, with land and poetry. His father was too talented in his early years, because he had no hope of high school, so he put his love on medicine, and set aside a vacant land next to the courtyard to plant medicinal materials in Puzhou Real Estate, named "Hundred Grass Garden". Since childhood, Li Yanwen has painstakingly read poetry books, discussed the history of the scriptures, won the zhi as a teenager, and was admitted to the Xiucai examination in his teens. After many efforts, it failed to win the lift. His father sent him to study at the then famous doctor Han Tai (Zi Daocheng) and other places in Puzhou, and within a few years, the medical profession improved and the medical skills were completed. In the twenty-eighth year of Jiajing (1549), the governor of Puzhou recommended him as a gongsheng, and in the thirty-first year of Jiajing (1552), he was recommended to the Tai Hospital and served as the official of the Tai Hospital. He is the author of a volume of "Four Pulses Of Invention", "Seven Pulses of Medicine", "Four Diagnostic Inventions" in eight volumes, "Biography of Pu Ai", "Ginseng Biography", "Pox Diagnosis and Treatment" and other books.

According to the "Compendium of Materia Medica, Volume 32, Pepper Strips": "[Shi Zhen Yue] Pepper is hot and spicy, pure yang, and it is advisable for those who are cold and wet in the stomach and intestines." The hot sick eat it, move the fire and hurt the qi, and the yin suffers from it. Shi Zhen is less addicted to it, and he is sick for many years without doubt. Later, I gradually learned that its shortcomings were painful, and my eyes were also stopped. ”

The first time he went to Wuchang (now Wuhan, Hubei Province) to participate in the township examination, he failed.

Due to external sensations, coughing and bone evaporation heat, the father said that he was cured by a taste of skullcap soup.
According to the "Compendium of Materia Medica, Volume XIII, Skullcap Article": "At the twentieth year of the year, because of a cold and cough for a long time, and the precepts were violated, the diseased bones evaporated and heated, the skin was like a fire, the daily spitting bowl xu, the summer month was thirsty, the sleep and food were wasted, and the six pulses were floating. After taking chai hu, mai men dong, jing li medicine, and yue Yu Yi drama, they all thought that they would die. The first Jun even thought of Li Dongyuan to cure the lungs of heat like a fire, irritability to drink and the day is full, the qi is also hot. It is advisable to taste skullcap soup in order to drain the lungs through the fire of qi. Then according to the square with a slice of one or two, two hours of water, fried for one hour, and served. The next day, the heat subsided, and the phlegm was healed. The medicine is pertinent, such as the drum should be the stick, the magic in the doctor, there is such a thing. ”
