Liu Yilin
On November 3, in the first round of the women's singles competition of the South Korea All-Star Table Tennis Championship Qualifiers, Liu Yilin, the daughter of Liu Nankui, who was studying in the first year of junior high school, defeated the player who was four years older than herself, which aroused the attention of the outside world.
Liu Yilin, who is currently in the first year of junior high school, narrowly defeated Liu Duoxian, a sophomore high school student, 3-2 in the match on the 3rd. The game began two days, and so far, only Liu Yilin has defeated opponents older than herself.
Because she is Liu Nankui's daughter, Liu Yilin's performance has attracted much attention. Liu Nam-kyu was the first men's singles champion in table tennis history and currently serves as vice chairman of the Korean Table Tennis Association, which is the 2004 Athens Men's Singles champion Yoo Seung-min. Liu Yilin began playing table tennis when she was 8 years old, and rose to prominence in competitions of all ages, known as the Star of Hope.
The All-Star Game attracted Korean junior high school, high school, national team and other players to participate, and the future stars of Korean table tennis and active players all signed up to participate. According to the regulations, a total of 64 players who have advanced to the top 8 or above in the middle and high schools of this competition and the players who have not been selected for the national team played in the qualifiers, and Liu Yilin participated in this stage of the competition. At this stage, 16 players are determined, and these 16 players and the active national players and the top players who fail to enter the national team but are ranked high will play a knockout round until the winner is decided.
Liu Yilin's first reversal defeated Liu Duoxian, who was four years older than herself, and she only needed to win one more game to enter the final stage of the competition and have the opportunity to compete with the active players of the national team.
Liu Nankui
Born in 1968, Liu Nankui is 53 years old and is a legend of the Korean table tennis generation. At the 1988 Seoul Olympics, Liu Nankui won the men's singles gold medal. In addition, Liu Nankui also won the men's singles championship at the 1986 Asian Games, and Liu Nankui was also the mixed doubles champion of the 1989 World Table Tennis Championships (partner Xuan Jinghe). In the men's doubles competitions of the 1988, 1992 and 1996 Olympic Games, Liu Nankui won bronze medals with Ahn Jae-hyung, Kim Taek-so and Lee Seung-chul respectively. In 1999, Liu Nankui retired. Liu Nam-kyu has served as the coach of the Korean men's and women's teams.
Liu Nankui's wife is a bag designer, and the two married in 2007.
