Most people don't know who Hong Haitian is, but these people have more or less heard her voice.

She is Jamal's girlfriend, La Thoka, in Slumdog Millionaire; Cho Chang, who fell in love with harry in Harry Potter; and Anna, the vampire hunter in Van Helsing.

Dubbing is not ventriloquism, not imitation, not voice change; voice actors are not simple technical work, their value lies in understanding, expressing, reshaping - dubbing, but also artistic creation.

Who is making a shanghai dialect of the little fishman's lines so humorous and playful? Who made Ruiwen's voice sound both confused and firm? And who made "everything tied to one arrow" become a famous phrase that all League of Legends players know at a glance? In addition to Hong Haitian, there are many voice actors who use their own skills and understanding of the characters to make the "League of Legends" culture across the ocean, and we sincerely thank them.

This year is the fifth year of LPL, the seventh year of "League of Legends", as the "League of Legends" dubbing director, Hong Haitian's dubbing career is longer. Over the years, video games have provided a new direction for the Chinese dubbing industry, and Hong Haitian was fortunate to seize the opportunity to become a part of League of Legends and LPL, and accompany us to this day.

In the "Victory Sound" studio, which Hong Haitian and two other elites in the Shanghai art sound industry co-founded, there is a painting on the wall - "Pleasant And Unforgettable", which is the motto of her and her studio. Someone once told her that the so-called dubbing is to be "pleasing to the ear and in the heart".

Pentaq: How is the dubbing work of League of Legends when you first touched it differently than you are now?

Hong Haitian: The first contact with the dubbing work of "League of Legends" was six years ago, because the national costume and the american costume were not synchronized at that time, and the hero of the national costume would be postponed for a period of time, so the work rhythm at that time was full of 3-4 heroes and a wave of collective dubbing.

Since then, the dubbing of League of Legends has continued until now. Now League of Legends is updated faster and more stable, so our monthly workload is about "one hero and one skin".

Another point is that because the time of the launch of the hero of the national costume and the american costume is very close, the requirements for Chineseization and dubbing work will be higher now, and it is necessary to complete the work in a shorter period of time, efficiently and with high quality.

pentaq: In China, when did the demand for game dubbing begin to generate and explode in large quantities?

Hong Haitian: For me, my first exposure to game dubbing was Tencent's very early online game "Xun Xian", before 2010. After that, I didn't touch the dubbing of games for about a year or two. After achieving stable cooperation with Tencent, we took over many game projects, including League of Legends, dnf, and some antique games.

By 2013 and 2014, game dubbing began to show an explosive trend, and the dubbing work of console games and PC games began to appear, and in 2015, there was a dubbing work of mobile games, such as "Glory of the King", such as "qq speed car".

Pentaq: One of the things that we ordinary people can see is that people don't like to watch movies that Chinese dubbed right now. After the dubbing of film and television dramas gradually began to throttle, what did game dubbing bring to the dubbing field?

Hong Haitian: It is a very new category in the field of dubbing. What is the purpose of our dubbing? In the earliest era of translation and production, the purpose of dubbing was cultural exchange, so that the audience could understand the films imported from abroad. In the era of TV dramas, due to various reasons such as the shooting environment, there may be no way to receive the same sound, or the actors' timbre needs further polishing, so the voice actors do further polishing on them.

And when it comes to the game, in fact, the game dubbing and anime are very similar, it completely requires the actor to use the voice to shape the character and make it come alive. Not only shaping, but sometimes reshaping - such as Timo the hero, the hero himself is a spy, in the dubbing of the dress also reflects his sad and contradictory side, and in China, in the dubbing, the hero is given more lively and cute and cute components, so that Chinese players can have a higher acceptance.

Pentaq: What kind of node is Victory Sound Studio that was founded two years ago for you?

Hong Haitian: Before the "Victory Voice" studio, my identity was an independent director, and after the establishment of "Victory Sound", I had the identity of "teacher".

In the past, the circle of "voice actors" was very closed, and it took a long time to cultivate a talent. In the past, the place where voice actors were needed was in the form of "one turnip and one pit", which may have been recruited once ten years ago, and never recruited again in the next ten years.

My experience is like this. Just entering the studio, the first year of time to do one thing - behind the mature actors to watch their voices, waiting to do a group of chores, at the end of the day, there is only one sentence, "rush" or "uncle come in" and so on.

After a few years, the director will see that you are a little talented and will arrange some dubbing work for small characters, such as a squirrel who appears four times in an episode.

In a few years, if you can still survive, you will be exposed to the role of female third and fourth women. Yet many people don't survive this process — perhaps slow growth, perhaps defeated by reality. In the past, dubbing work adopted a fee system, and in the first two years without writing fees, there was no money and no way to live. In this way, many talents are lost.

So we need to have a way to cultivate talents, we need to give them the experience we have as soon as possible - so that they don't need 3-5 years, maybe 1-2 years, some talented students can get started with some games, anime, do not need to stay up for so long. This is the original intention of the birth of the "Victory Sound", to cultivate more industry talents and avoid the situation of "green and yellow".

Pentaq: This year is the fifth anniversary of LPL, and we're going to talk about the last five years. Is five years a long time for you? How has the state of life changed then and now?

Hong Haitian: Now that I think about it, it is a long time, but because of the fullness of life, I feel that it is fast. In the past, I only thought about my own personal development, but now I think more about the whole, including my own team, including the dubbing industry in Shanghai, and even the dubbing industry in the country. Standing taller, thinking about things will naturally be more.

However, when it comes to living conditions, the living conditions of five years ago and now have not changed much - early into the shed, late out of the shed. The only difference is that now I have to give more new people classes on the weekend, and at the same time there is more communication and exchange with other industries.

Pentaq: What was the most memorable time in five years?

Hong Haitian: Cooperation with Tencent. After two years of not being exposed to game dubbing work, suddenly one day an employee of Tencent came to me and hoped to establish a long-term cooperation with me, I asked why, and said that because the last cooperation was particularly careful, so the quality was very good.

I was very touched at that time, because we didn't have any contact between the blank two years, and only left a phone call with each other. Just because of such a small thing as seriousness, can I make others remember me? Although it is only a small thing, the subsequent impact it has caused is very large.

Pentaq: In the dubbing process of League of Legends, which character impressed you the most?

Hong Haitian: Ruiwen. After getting the original voice of the role, I asked my lover, like it doesn't sound like mine? He said it was very similar, so I volunteered to create it.

But there are more reasons for this. In the time period of creating Ruiwen, it was exactly the confused period of my career - I was struggling with whether to continue to be a voice actor unswervingly, or to start the transformation to a voice director, and Ruiwen, who is also a role in confusion and choosing her own path. At that time, I was particularly able to understand and appreciate the feelings of the characters in the game, so the final result was very successful - of course, in the process of dubbing Ruiwen, I did not imagine that everyone would love this hero so much in the future.

Pentaq: The dubbing work for League of Legends has lasted for many years, and during those years, let's talk about a moment when you yourself get a sense of accomplishment from your work.

Hong Haitian: 2017 Beijing Water Cube League of Legends Music Festival. Many voice actors were invited at the time, and I went too.

At the time of the rehearsal, since everyone didn't have too many lines, they were already very skilled, and there was no tension at all.

But when it came time to officially take the stage, the moment my sentence "Everything in the world is tied to an arrow" appeared, the audience directly exploded, because they did not know that we were voice actors, and they might think that these people standing on the stage dressed formally were the hosts?

At that moment, I suddenly wanted to cry, and the tears were about to flow out in an instant. This game is really good, there will be such a fanatical fans, and fans can have such a good memory of the details of the game's hero lines, which is a very, very remarkable thing.

Pentaq: In the past five years, what kind of surprises have your industry brought to you?

Hong Haitian: After the establishment of "Victory Sound", I began to teach many new people, and I gained too many surprises and happiness.

In the past, we didn't communicate much in the dubbing industry, after all, everyone still had a competitive relationship. Now with the addition of new people, the energy absorbed from new students, you find that they can actually improve so fast. I sometimes ask my lover, am I really amazing? I don't think I'm amazing myself, because many of the voiced newcomers, they are just as capable, talented, and even passionate, and if they were in my position, they might have improved faster.

That's what the industry has surprised me in recent years, or surprised me— there are many people in the world who are just like you, or even more talented than you, who need only an opportunity, and you, the one who creates the opportunity for them.

Pentaq: How do you plan for the next five years? Or rather, how do you want the dubbing industry to evolve in the future?

Hong Haitian: If you look at some of the Japanese comics, you will find that the sincere feelings in it will make you cry, and the angry feelings will make your blood boil, but at the same time it is very beautiful. This is the professionalism of the Japanese dubbing industry – while maintaining life and authenticity, there is also an expression of beauty.

So I hope that in the future we can build a more mature mechanism, like the voice actor industry in Japan, more professional and subdivided, such as separating the production company from the agency? Now some domestic dubbing agencies are doing these two things at the same time, but in fact, the separation will be more refined and professional.

As for the medium, you'll see that in the past it was movies and TV series, then anime, now it's a game, and the future may be VR.

Dubbing is a job that, as long as people can still listen, will never lose its value.
