In January, Alan Rickman died of cancer. He left £100,000 to donate to charity.

Kate Winslet, 41, told the public about Rickman's generosity and paid tribute to the acting legend.

Speaking about the legend, who recently died at the age of 69, Kate joked that Rickman was the opposite of the "villain" Severus Snape in his Harry Potter productions.

Winslet, who starred with Rickman in "Sense and Sensibility" at the age of 19, said she was startled when she first saw Rickman's height and seriousness, but she quickly realized that Rickman wasn't scary.

"He's like a big idiot. If there's one word I can use to describe Rickman's, it's kindness. He was very kind. ”

"For Rickman's memorial, Juliet Stevenson said that whenever Rickman went out to dinner, when other people wanted to pay, he would call in advance or give his credit card to the restaurant before the meal so that no one could look at the bill."

"He just said, 'I have two words to tell you: Harry Potter.'" He's famous for doing that. ”

Rickman is best known for his role as the "villain" Severus Snape in the Harry Potter series.

But he left behind a £4 million estate after his death, including £100,000 donated to two charities.

Rickman left most of his inheritance to his wife, Rima Horton, 68, who lived together in London's West End.

He also donated £25,000 each to the Royal Academy of Arts and Drama, the Sponsoring Educational Arts Organisation, the Surgical Research Foundation known for Saving Faces and the International Performance Assistance Trust.

Rickman, a lifelong Labour supporter, has helped two of the latter charities throughout his life. He also gave his three nieces an inheritance of £25,000 each.

Rickman became famous for his role as the German terrorist Hans Gruber in the 1988 film Die Hard and won a BAFTA Award for his role as the wicked Sheriff of Nottingham in 1991's Robin hood: Prince of Thieves.

Rickman's wife is a former Labour MP and lecturer in economics. He fell in love with his wife in 1965, when Rickman was 19 and Horton was 18. But the two did not marry privately in New York until 2012.

After leaving the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts, he joined the Royal Shakespeare Company, where he became a stage actor before starring in Hollywood film roles.

After playing the "villain" character Severus Snape in the Harry Potter series, Rickman became well known among a new group of fans.

He also won a 1996 Golden Globe and Emmy for his performance in the 1995 film Rasputin, and was nominated for a BAFTA Award for his performances in Michael Collins, Sense and Sensibility and One Room, One Ghost, One Lover.

Rickman's last role was as a British general in the drone war horror film Eye in the Sky. The film, which starred alongside Helen Mirren, was released earlier this year.

He also voiced the newly released Alice through the looking glass.
