Chongqing, 27 Sep (China News Network) -- Zhou Ning, vice president of the Association for Relations Across the Taiwan Straits, said at the opening ceremony that the "14th Five-Year Plan" provides tremendous opportunities and broad space for the development of Taiwan compatriots, and hopes that the vast number of Taiwan compatriots will seize the tremendous opportunities in the new development stage of the mainland of the motherland, take the initiative to adapt to the new development concept, actively integrate into the new development pattern, and be practitioners, contributors, and beneficiaries of cross-strait integration and development.

In recent years, the mainland has insisted on deepening cross-strait integration and development and continued to promote cross-strait economic cooperation. Since the beginning of this year, cross-strait trade and investment have increased by a large margin. According to statistics from the General Administration of Customs, from January to August 2021, cross-strait trade volume was US$208.82 billion, an increase of 31.8% year-on-year. Zhou Ning pointed out: Facts have proved that cross-strait economic cooperation cannot be stopped or stopped.

This year marks the beginning of the 14th Five-Year Plan and the 2035 Vision. Zhou Ning said: The 14th Five-Year Plan has clearly defined the goals and tasks of promoting the peaceful development of cross-strait relations and the reunification of the motherland in the new journey of comprehensively building a modern socialist country, thus injecting a new and powerful impetus into cross-strait economic cooperation.

Zhou Ning said that the 14th Five-Year Plan for the first time included the policy and institutional arrangements for Taiwan compatriots to enjoy equal treatment, providing a new perspective for Taiwan compatriots to fully understand the blueprint of the plan, which is conducive to Taiwan compatriots taking the initiative to seize opportunities and participate in the mainland's economic and social development process extensively and deeply. The 14th Five-Year Plan supports Taiwan compatriots to participate in the "Belt and Road" construction and the national regional coordinated development strategy, points out the key direction for Taiwan compatriots to integrate into the new development pattern of "double circulation", and is conducive to Taiwan businessmen and Taiwan enterprises becoming bigger and stronger, and promoting high-quality economic development.

At the same time, the 14th Five-Year Plan also encourages the promotion of cross-strait financial cooperation, supports qualified Taiwan-funded enterprises to list on the mainland, broadens the channels for Taiwan compatriots and Taiwan enterprises to enter the mainland service industry, and helps Taiwan enterprises to improve the quality and efficiency of financing. The 14th Five-Year Plan supports the construction of cooperation platforms such as cross-strait industrial cooperation zones, creates favorable conditions for cross-strait enterprises to deepen their development and innovate and develop, and helps Taiwan-funded enterprises, especially small and medium-sized enterprises, to actively embed themselves in the mainland's industrial system.

The 14th Five-Year Plan encourages cross-strait cooperation in the fields of culture, education, health care, and public resources, promotes social security and public resource sharing, provides more guarantees and opportunities for Taiwan's relevant industry professionals, and is conducive to cross-strait compatriots, especially young people, to show their strengths. The 14th Five-Year Plan supports the establishment and exploration of a new path for cross-strait development, puts forward new expectations for compatriots on both sides of the strait to actively explore existing achievements, is conducive to promoting cross-strait industries to achieve a higher level of cooperation, lays a solid foundation for building a cross-strait common market, and jointly strengthens the Chinese national economy.

Zhou Ning said that the DPP authorities' collusion with external forces to seek "independence" provocations has seriously endangered peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait and harmed the interests and well-being of the broad masses of Taiwan compatriots; compatriots on both sides of the strait should adhere to the "one-China" principle and the "1992 Consensus," resolutely smash any "Taiwan independence" plot, continue to take positive actions for cross-strait economic exchanges and cooperation, and jointly safeguard the fundamental interests of the Chinese nation.
