Today's Yuwang Pavilion was rebuilt on the original site of the "YuJi Pavilion", and the 64 steps in front of the pavilion represent the age of Dayu.

In the first year of Tang Tianbao (742 AD), because this place was the place where Dayu Zhishuigong became famous, in order to commemorate the merits of Dayu, Tang Xuanzong renamed it "Yucheng".

Since then, the land has belonged to different jurisdictions, but the word "Yu" and the spirit of Da Yu zhi shui have always accompanied it.

The ancient village cultivates the family lineage

Dongdian Village is a well-known "doctor village" in Yucheng, and 121 families in the village have trained 43 college students, including 6 doctoral students.

In the eleventh year of Ming Yongle (1413 AD), in order to escape the pain of war, the Zhucheng Wang clan moved to Dongdian Village, Yucheng. Along with the Wang family, there is also the family style of Chongwen re-teaching.

After settling in Dongdian Village, the Wang family changed the family private school into a village school, taught a subset of the history of the classics, and opened the precedent of education in Dongdian Village.

Since 2017, the "Cultural Academy" in Dongdian Village has held 13 cultural activities, with more than 1,000 people participating. With the help of the "Cultural Academy", from 2017 to 2019, 9 more students in Dongdian Village were successfully admitted to the desired institution and stepped into the temple of knowledge.

The Battle of Pingyu inspired future generations

In mid-October 1945, the Bohai Naval Region organized a general offensive against the remnants of the Japanese puppet army that refused to surrender, and from October 14 to December 11, it conducted a peripheral dragnet battle, annihilating most of the puppet army garrisoned in the city, as well as 300 Japanese troops from Jinan.

During this period, the Japanese Watanabe 47th Division stationed in Jinan transferred a brigade to Yucheng Railway Station and other places in an attempt to prevent the Bohai Naval District's troops from taking Jinan directly along the Jinpu Line.

Yucheng Railway Station is located at the intersection of Jinpu Railway and Huiliao Highway, and its strategic position is crucial. In order to completely eliminate this remnant of the enemy and ensure the smooth flow of this regional transportation hub, a crucial battle was fought in an all-round way.

On December 30, 1945, only 798 Japanese troops remained at Yucheng Railway Station. In the afternoon, after defeating a patrolling Japanese army, the combat troops surrounded the Japanese trapped at the train station. The Japanese resisted and opened fire.

In the end, the battle ended with the total annihilation of the stubborn enemy. This was a battle in which the troops of the Bohai Naval Region annihilated the Japanese army.

Although this battle has gone away, it still remains in the memory of the people of Yucheng and has become the red memory of the folk artist population.

Scientific management Of wasteland becomes fertile land

Yucheng is located in the Huang-Huai-Hai Plain, with abundant water resources. However, Yucheng at that time has always been plagued by saline and alkaline soil.

In order to explore the way of comprehensive treatment of drought and flood alkali in the Huang-Huai-Hai Plain, more than 100 experts and scholars from scientific research units such as the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences came to Yucheng and established a pilot area for comprehensive treatment of drought, flood and alkali.

In 1979, the Yucheng Comprehensive Experimental Station of the Chinese Academy of Sciences was established.

Today, the barren land that was once difficult to grow crops has become fertile land under the power of science and technology. Up to now, the resident experts of Yucheng Comprehensive Experimental Station have maintained more than 50 people every year, which has become the scientific and technological backing here.

With the continuous improvement of agricultural production conditions, Yucheng has also become a suitable place for crop growth, and the grain output has increased from 75 kilograms per mu more than 50 years ago to the current mu yield of tons of grain, and it has become a famous local high-quality wheat planting area.

"Texas Grilled Chicken" is known throughout the country

Shandong's spiced boneless grilled chicken is famous far and wide, and "Texas Grilled Chicken" is one of the representatives.

Yucheng is under the administration of Dezhou City. The "Chronicle of Yucheng County" records that Yucheng has a history of making Texas grilled chicken for nearly a hundred years.

Due to the selection of herbs and fruits, star anise, peppercorns, nutmeg, cloves and other medicinal materials in the production, the five flavors of the grilled chicken produced are full of fragrance, so it is named "spiced grilled chicken"; later, because the bone and meat are separated when the chicken legs are carried, it is named "five-spice boneless grilled chicken".

Yucheng is known as the "Functional Sugar City of China". Sugar, refers to functional sugars. The most familiar functional sugar is xylitol.
