In the fourth year of Chuping (193), after Lü Bu was expelled from Chang'an, he defected to Yuan Shu in Nanyang, who wanted to get rid of Lü Bu because of his misdeeds, and Lü Bu defected to Zhang Yang because of fear. At this time, Dong Zhuo's old subordinates Li Dai and Guo Feng issued a huge reward to arrest Lü Bu, who assassinated Dong Zhuo. In the first year of Xingping (194), Lü Bu escaped from Yuan Shao and defected to Zhang Yang again. Zhang Yang had crusaded against the Yellow Turban Rebellion in his early years, and later participated in the crusade against Dong Zhuo's Kwantung Alliance, and in the first year of Jian'an (196), Emperor Xian returned from Chang'an to Luoyang, and on the way, there was a poor grain supply and hundreds of officials were hungry, Zhang Yang took the initiative to bring grain to greet him, and escorted Emperor Xian to Luoyang, and also sent people to repair the dilapidated palace.
In 197 AD, Yuan Shu wanted to marry Lü Bu, but the result was not satisfactory, Yuan Shu's emissary Han Yin took Lü Bu's daughters away, and Lü Bu suddenly repented, recovered his daughter, and killed Han Yin. In the third year of Jian'an (198), Cao Cao besieged Lü Bu in Xia Pi, and when he heard that Lü Bu would be killed, Zhang Yang was immediately anxious and immediately led his army out of Hanoi to break through Cao Cao's siege of Lü Bu, but failed, and then he led his army to garrison Dongshi and became a horn with Lü Bu. Before Cao Cao could fight him, Zhang Yang was assassinated by his subordinate Yang Ugly, and one of the heroes of the late Eastern Han Dynasty came to an end.
