Although Pei Xiu was a famous minister in the middle and late Tang Dynasty, his fame was not as great as that of his son Pei Wende, let alone the influence of his son Pei Wende. In China, I'm afraid it's a joke not to know his son. His son's common name Pei Wende did know indeed, but the monk Fahai was like a day in the sky. Yes, the monk Fahai is Pei Xiu's son; Fahai in "The Legend of the White Snake" is his son; Gong Linna's "Fahai You Don't Know Love" sings his son. As Pei Xiu of Xiangguo, how could he be willing to send his son to the Buddha's Gate?

The Miyin Temple, located in Ningxiang County, Hunan Province, was donated by Pei Xiu during the third year (849) of Emperor Xuanzong's reign. In that year, the crown prince fell ill, and the famous doctors were helpless, and Pei Xiu swore an oath to send his son Pei Wenhai to become a prince. The abbot of the Miyin Temple, Lingyou Zen Master, gave Pei Wenhai the title "Fahai", and worshiped as a disciple at the feet of Lingyou Zen Master, the founder of the Zen Gate Yang Sect.

When Pei Xiu sent Pei Wende out of the family, he composed a "Police Policy Note" to exhort his son to study the Fa diligently, and the words and sentences were simple and touching. The "Police Notes" were included in the book "Zen Gate Daily Recitation" by Zen Buddhism, and Zen practitioners had a copy of it and recited it every day.

After Pei Wenhai left home, the Lingyou Zen master, in order to suffer his body and strengthen his will, ordered him to chop firewood for the permanent residence every day, which took three years; and it took another three years to order him to transport domestic water for more than 500 monks who lived there. One day, he was so hard that he moved his head and carried a bucket of water and said to himself: "The monk eats water and picks it, even if he eats it, it is difficult to consume." Under a spell, after each meal, the public was in pain. When Master Lingyou found out, he said to him, "An old monk who sits down can consume ten thousand cartons of grain." After that, the public stomach pain is completely relieved. Deeply ashamed, Fahai took care of his body and mind, acted in hardship, and served the people.

Pei Xiu is erudite and versatile, works in poetry and painting, is good at calligraphy, and has a smooth career. During the reign of Emperor Muzong, Pei Xiu was appointed from the township to the Jingdeng Jinshidi. In the second year of Emperor Wenzong's reign, he was also a third class of the Middle-Class, a virtuous and virtuous person, and a third class who could speak bluntly. In August of the sixth year of the middle school, Pei Xiu was promoted to tongzhongshu menxia Pingzhangshi (zai chancellor), Pei Xiu spent 24 years to reach the peak of the people's subjects, Pei Xiu for a total of five years.

During Pei Xiu's tenure, he rectified and managed the water transportation and tea taxes. The ten articles of the Cao Cao Law are fixed as the incentive content of the Cao Yun Law. During his three years in office, he successfully transferred the lease of millet to Weicang 1.2 million Yuan every year, and "no hesheng sank".

At that time, the towns set up warehouses to store tea leaves for sale at a price and profit from them. However, they were not soft on the merchants, and imposed taxes except for tea, which seriously damaged the interests of merchants and travelers. To this end, Pei Xiu judged the situation and said, "Allow each town to store tea, but not tax merchants without authorization." ”

Pei Xiuya is good at antiques. When he was in charge of the Lunxuan (the emperor's edict), the peasants of Qufu Yizai dug up an ancient anthem. The volume of this Ang is about three buckets, short neck bird feet, round mouth square ears, simple and bulky, there are nine ancient seal characters on the waist, yanzhou has a Lu surname shusheng, called it the big seal, is the Qi Huan guild alliance in the KuiQiu forged old object. Yi Zai is a cousin of Pei Xiu and sends Ang to Pei Xiu's house. Pei Xiu heard that it was an artifact from the Spring and Autumn Period, and it was very cherished, and often invited relatives and friends to watch it. One day, Pei Xiu held a banquet, placed the anthem in the courtyard, and invited everyone to play. Liu Metamorphosis, a scholar of zhongshushe, said, "This is not an artifact from the Spring and Autumn Period, but a forgery of modern times." The Spring and Autumn of the Zuo Clan records that the Duke of Qi Huan summoned the princes nine times, laying the foundation for the position of overlord. The Alliance of Aoi Hill is the eighth. The Book of Rites records that the Kwai Qiu Hui meng Qi Huan Gong was alive, and there was a nickname there before he died? So it's a fake. Pei Xiu suddenly realized that in order not to let the fakes remain in the world, let people break up.

Pei Xiu was quite devout to Buddhism and had deep roots in Zen Buddhism. After he reached middle age, he abstained from carnal desires, ate vegetarian food, burned incense and chanted the sutra, and was known as "Hedong Dashi" and "Prime Minister Shamen". Pei Xiu occupies an equally important position in the history of Zen Buddhism along with Pang Yun, Bai Lotte, Li Ao, Lu Gang and others.

When Pei Xiu was in charge of the Hongzhou Assassin History, he was close to the Huang Berberry Xiyun Zen Master. Zen master Xiyun mingled among the monks at the Da'an Jingshe of Huangbei Mountain, doing some rude words such as sweeping the temple. One day, after Pei Xiu entered the temple to burn incense, when viewing the murals in the temple, Pei Xiu asked, "What is the picture?" The chief monk said, "High monk Zhenyi." Pei Xiu asked, "True manners are considerable, where is the monk?" The chief monk was speechless. Pei Xiu asked again, "Are there any Zen people here?" The chief monk then summoned the Huang Berberry Zen Master, and Pei Xiu said to the Huang Berberry Zen Master: "Hugh Shi has a question, and the virtues are stingy, and now I ask the master to pay him a word." Zen Master Huang Barberry said, "Please ask Xiang Gong." Pei Xiu then repeated the answer he had just given to the chief monk. Zen Master Huang Berberry shouted, "Pei Xiu! Pei Xiu promised. Zen Master Huang Barberry said, "Where?" Pei Xiu was overjoyed at the moment, and even exclaimed, "My master's true and good knowledge is also!" If it is shown to others, why is it not here? The monks of the monastery were stunned. This is a famous story of Zen Buddhism, and the meaning is not hidden. Speaking of Confucius, see enlightenment in Zen Buddhism. Learning is a good thing, and many people are still in the clouds for this story. After Pei Xiu became the empress, he twice invited The Zen Master Huang Barberry, who asked questions day and night, took notes on his words, and later wrote about the deeds, Pei Xiu wrote a rich preface to the Buddhist classics, and was praised by Tang Xuanzong as a "true Confucian".

Pei Xiu likes to joke. During the Shangwei Festival, the emperor gathered at the Qujiang Chishan Pavilion to give a banquet to his courtiers, which was very grand. Pei Xiu and his colleagues from the provincial cabinet came to play, and they were slightly tired on the way, and sat by the pool to rest. A few people on the side were half-drunk, accusing others of being frivolous. Pei Xiu asked, "May I ask, what is your position?" The other party said, "Oh, Lang does not dare, Lang is the new Xuanzhou Guangde County Order." Pei Xiu asked, "What is the job of the abbot?" Pei Xiu said, "Oh, Lang doesn't dare, he just served as Xuanzhou's observation envoy." When Pei Xiu was about to inspect Xuancheng, the man and his companions fled. A few days later, the matter was laughed at all over the capital. When Tang Xuanzong Li Chen was still the king of the domain, he often joked with the kings in this way. After Emperor Xuanzong ascended the throne, Pei Xiu served as chancellor, and when he asked Pei Xiu to draft an edict, he often said to his close ministers: "Oh, Lang does not dare, and the new Zhongshu Menxia Pingzhangshi has been granted." "The Monarch is happy.

Pei Xiu's true books and calligraphy are taken from the vigor and charm, and his writings "especially have a physical method", far away from Shao Wei and Jin, and see the strictness of the law in the intention, and the innocence in the law.

The "Xuan secret pagoda stele" was written for Pei Xiu, and Liu Gongquan wrote it. The Guifeng Monk Monument is a willow inscription and Pei Shuzhi. Both of them were devoted to the Buddha, so they were able to speak in small words, and later generations thought that those who were not proficient in Brahmana could not do it. It's like a hand.

There are poems in the Quan Tang Wen and Quan Tang Poems.
