At a time when the Chiang family dynasty was becoming more and more unpopular, many officers in the Kuomintang who had fought bloody anti-Japanese resistance chose to electrify and revolt and embrace the light for the sake of the country and the livelihood of the people. In 2014, after a full 67 years, Wang Chengsong was finally able to meet his daughter Wang Xiulan with the efforts of some people on both sides of the strait. Wang Chengsong's unit was the Nationalist 21st Army, then commander Wang Kejun, which was swept away by the People's Liberation Army in April 1949 during the Battle of the Crossing River, and the remaining remnants fled to Shanghai. Eventually, in Shanghai, the Kuomintang 21st Army was crushed by the People's Liberation Army, most of which were annihilated, and one surrendered. Wang Chengsong, who was immortal, was captured. The People's Liberation Army gave preferential treatment to prisoners, and when he was old, he was sent back to his hometown for travel expenses, and Wang Chengsong was young and strong, so he was asked to join the People's Liberation Army.
Unexpectedly, by coincidence, Wang Chengsong's PLA company commander was not only a fellow countryman, but also a distant relative of his. As soon as Wang Chengsong met and inquired about his daughter, the company commander who was in a military position had not returned home for many years, and where he knew about the affairs of his hometown, he had to say: Soon, when the victory is complete, go home together.
In October 1949, Wang Chengsong's troops fought in Xiamen, and then participated in the Battle of Kinmen. In 1955, after Wang Chengsong retired from the army, because he had no culture and no skill, he spoke a strong rural tone, could not find a job, and his life was difficult. More importantly, his past of being captured also left him in the cold. Those Kuomintang officers had already looted a large amount of gold and silver and soft, and when they arrived in Taiwan, they still had no worries about food and clothing after retiring from the army. Wang Chengsong's encounter represents the situation of many Taiwan veterans. In desperation, he had to rely on scrap to survive, hungry and sleeping, and had no place to live. Later, when he met his daughter, he also lived in a cottage that barely counted as a house on the side of the road.
