Talking about my personal family memory, my mother's cousin was taken to the other side of the strait by Zhuang Ding, returned to Qingdao in the late 1980s, and brought a gold ring to the elderly relatives who were living in poverty at that time, and this memory must have been shared by others, such as an actor who is now called the "Godfather" and married a "foreign name" daughter-in-law, because the relative I am talking about is also a relative of his family, and later my mother also saw the blessing of the "Godfather" himself when the descendants of the two common relatives got married.
Qingdao was the last city to be liberated north of the Yangtze River in China, later than Shanghai, because there were still large soldiers of the US Pacific Fleet stationed there, which was a little more troublesome to deal with. After the liberation of Shanghai, the American soldiers withdrew first, and the Nationalist government personnel and defenders in Qingdao were all withdrawn to the other side of the strait in batches.
This "great retreat" in Qingdao, excluding government personnel, withdrew more than 80,000 troops alone, of which about 30,000 were temporarily arrested Zhuangding, my mother's cousin, and my father's family also had a relative. So that later Kaohsiung's small port also has a special "Qingdao Village", just not far from the Taipei 101 Building, there is also a village called "Four Fourth South Village", which is the first village in Taipei, the reason why it is called this name is to commemorate their predecessor - the Four Fourth Arsenal in Qingdao. In the thousands of "dependent villages", there are also tens of thousands of young people who have retreated from Qingdao, who have not experienced any military training, who have no position, and who have not carried guns to the battlefield, but since then they have lived helplessly in the land of a foreign land.
In the early days of the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, many enthusiastic students and other young people with lofty ideals joined the army and went to the battlefield under the call of the National Government, and they and the veterans formed the main force of the War of Resistance. In the middle and late period of the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, the areas of national unification shrank considerably, the number of personnel in the war of resistance in the front was seriously reduced, the number of soldiers recruited voluntarily fell into exhaustion, and many ordinary people were also uneasy about the prospects of the future War of Resistance, preferring to live their own small lives with peace of mind, lacking the enthusiasm to go into battle and kill the enemy.
As early as 1933, the "Military Service Law" promulgated by the State Government stipulated the conscription system of "three dings draw one, five dings draw two" and "lonely people slow conscription", the actual operation process is far less ideal, "bribery", "index trading", "fleeing Zhuang Ding" phenomenon is not uncommon, especially in the final period of the War of Resistance and the subsequent civil war, from "pumping" to "grasping", in the war zone and tug-of-war area to arrest Zhuang Ding "supplement soldiers, provide labor", has become the most realistic way of operation, for which it has also been resisted and criticized by the people.
