Approaching the Winter Olympics| pursuing the "volunteer dream" with "Olympic feelings", this "double Olympic volunteer" is ready

Beijing, November 4 (Xinhua) -- "When the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games were held, it was the summer vacation of the fifth grade of primary school, and watching TV was not addictive. Yu Zhongqi, a doctoral student at Tsinghua University's School of Public Policy and Management, recalled his volunteer experience in 2008, and the smile on his face seemed to belong to his youth.

When the Olympic flame was first lit in Beijing, 11-year-old Yu Zhongqi signed up as a city volunteer to do some work to assist in translation and information consultation in the small blue pavilions built around the Olympic venues. "At that time, there was only one goal, that is, to practice foreign languages, tell Chinese stories to foreign friends, and be a good 'little master' of the Beijing Olympics." He said.

In order to be competent for volunteer work, Yu Zhongqi prepared a large section of English introductions to Chinese elements such as the Great Wall, the Forbidden City, the Courtyard, and The Peking Roast Duck, and when he met foreigners, he found an opportunity to tell them. "Looking back now, it may be more important than simply introducing the attractions and cuisine, so that more foreign friends can understand the connotation of Chinese culture, and it may be more effective to use some specific cases and stories." He said.

13 years later, from "Beijing welcomes you" to "together to the future", Yu Zhongqi said: "If the success of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games is that we are embracing the world with open arms, then the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics we are trying to make the world better understand China, we are more confident." ”

Today, Yu Zhongqi, who is already a doctoral student, has been selected to become a volunteer for the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics, and this time, he has moved to a more core volunteer position - olympic family assistant, providing schedule management, field escort, language translation, information communication and other services for Olympic family members from all over the world, and just completed the first phase of volunteer job training in October.

"Volunteering for the 2008 Beijing Olympics was an enlightenment for me, and tsinghua's strong sports atmosphere deepened my love for sports and enthusiasm for the Olympic Games. In the past two years, I have participated in the organization and service of large-scale activities such as school celebrations, graduation seasons, and evening parties, accumulating valuable experience, and at the same time more deeply realizing the importance of 'team'. Volunteers are never alone, and volunteers who serve the Olympic family are also a big family. Yu Zhongqi said.

13 years ago, during the Beijing Olympic Games, there were thousands of "small blue pavilions" like the kind Yu Zhongqi worked for, and there were tens of thousands of volunteers, and not long ago, on the occasion of the 100-day countdown to the opening of the Winter Olympic Games, the volunteers of the Winter Olympics in the capital universities also solemnly swore that they would jointly contribute to the holding of a simple, safe and wonderful Winter Olympics.

"Volunteering is about integrating yourself into the collective, but volunteering is not about giving up the self completely. Our level of ideological cognition and ability is actually gradually improving in this process, and it is also a kind of self-realization. Yu Zhongqi said.

In 2008, Yu Zhongqi went to the scene to watch athletics, boxing and other competitions. At the Beijing Winter Olympics, while doing a good job in volunteer service, he also hopes to learn more about ice and snow sports and see more Chinese athletes achieving good results in ice and snow sports.

Charm of the Winter Olympics, meet in Beijing. "This 'City of The Double Olympics' is ready, and as a 'Double Olympic Volunteer', I am also ready!" Yu Zhongqi said.
