A few days ago, Yu Xunlin, a professor at the Central South University of Forestry and Technology, crossed the mountains and went to a broad-leaved forest at an altitude of 650 meters in Nanshan National Park to measure and identify a tall and tall small-leaved red bean.

In March this year, when a plant survey was conducted in Nanshan National Park, more than 10 scattered small-leaved red beans were found. Among them, the largest plant is 45 centimeters in diameter, about 25 meters high, and the crown width is more than 300 square meters, like a huge green umbrella that is stretched open.

Small-leaved red bean, also known as rosewood tree, meteorological tree, is an evergreen tree of the butterfly flower family of red bean trees, about 3 to 10 meters high; the bark is gray-brown, not cracked; the roots can be used in medicine, and can also be used as excellent precious materials. It is mainly distributed in Guangdong, Guangxi, Fujian, Hunan and other places, growing on slopes, slopes and forests at an altitude of 600 to 800 meters.

In September this year, the State Forestry and Grassland Administration and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs issued a new "Directory of Wild Plants under National Key Protection", and the small-leaf red bean was listed as a national first-level protected wild plant.

The discovery of small leaf red beans has enriched the rare tree species that are characteristic of Nanshan National Park. The Nanshan National Park Administration will take measures such as listing and strengthening patrols to strengthen the protection of small leaf red beans.
