Is Adam's apple Adam's apple?

author:English is spoken daily

Today's theme word is apple, apple, the most common home-cooked fruit.

The first man God created was Adam, the first woman was Eve, and it is said that the forbidden fruit that Eve ate in the Garden of Eden that could not resist temptation was the apple. The apple that fell on the ground inspired Newton to discover gravity, and the Apple company founded by Jobs became the world's largest business empire by market capitalization, which shows that apple is a fruit of great significance to human beings. Today, Apple is still sacrificing itself to protect the health of people around the world.

Hence the English proverb: An apple a day keeps the doctor away. Roughly equivalent to our Chinese "walk a hundred steps after a meal, live to ninety-nine".

Americans call their beloved people or things apple of the eye, which means pearls in the palm of the hand, heart and liver baby, and so on. Americans affectionately refer to their New York as Big Apple.

During the Cultural Revolution, there was a famous blood theory slogan: "Lao Tzu is a hero and a good man, Lao Tzu is a dog and a bear bastard." After watching the Indian movie "Wanderer" after the reform and opening up, I found that this tone is also known among Indians. I still remember the lines in it, "The son of a judge will always be a judge, and the son of a thief will always be a thief." Americans are so proud of freedom and equality, so convinced that America is a place where everyone can achieve their personal dreams through their own efforts, they even have a similar saying An apple doesn't fall far from the tree, to the effect that "if there is a father, there must be a son."

But After all, China and the United States are still two different countries, with very different views on many issues. Chinese some things that Americans are accustomed to and commonplace, but Americans see but find strange, such as drying underwear on the balcony and children wearing open crotch pants. Chinese some things that Americans also find incomprehensible, such as women drinking ice water just after giving birth. In many ways, China and the US are so different. The two countries are basically apples and oranges. The difference between the two countries is as great as apples and oranges.

Back to the title, Adam's Apple is not Adam's Apple, but his throat knot.
