Zhao Shiyan (1901-1927): Male, from Youyang, Chongqing. Zi Qinsheng, guofu, pen name Shi Ying.

In 1915, he was admitted to the Affiliated Middle School of Beijing Higher Normal School and was elected as the secretary general of the student union during the "May Fourth" movement.

In 1919, he participated in the "Young Chinese Society".

In 1920, he went to France for work-study, and in February of the following year, he and Zhou Enlai initiated the organization of a communist group in France.

In June 1922, the Young Communist Party of China in Europe was established, and Zhao Shiyan was elected secretary.

In February 1923, the "Chinese Youth Communist Party in Europe" was renamed the "Chinese Communist Youth League in Europe".

In 1923, he went to the Soviet Union to study and attended the Fifth Congress of the Communist International. After returning to China the following year, he served as the secretary of the Beiping Prefectural Committee.

In 1926, he was appointed as the director of the organization department of the Jiangsu and Zhejiang District Committee of the CPC and the secretary of the Party Group of the Shanghai Federation of Trade Unions, the second secretary of the Jiangsu and Zhejiang District Committees, and together with Comrades Zhou Enlai and Luo Yinong, organized and led three armed uprisings of Shanghai workers.

In 1927, he was elected as a member of the Central Committee at the Fifth National Congress of the Communist Party of China. In June of the same year, he was appointed Acting Secretary of the Jiangsu Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China.

On July 2, 1927, Zhao Shiyan was unfortunately arrested. In the face of his ferocious enemies, he was awe-inspiring and unyielding. At that time, the "National Salvation Times" once commented: "People recognize him as the soul of the Shanghai Ministry Trade Union, the genius leader of the Communist Party of China, and the rare hero of the Chinese nation." ”

In 2009, Zhao Shiyan was named "100 Heroic And Exemplary Figures Who Made Outstanding Contributions to the Founding of New China" by 11 departments, including the Central Propaganda Department and the Central Organization Department.

In 1923, Li Dazhao praised Zhao Shiyan and said: "Shiyan has a fast brain, and many problems are very inspiring to me."

In 1924, the "National Salvation Times" praised: "Mr. Zhao is the famous political editor-in-chief of the Northern Commentary, and his speech style is admired by ordinary revolutionary youth, and Zhao Shiyan's name has spread throughout the country."

After Zhao Shiyan's sacrifice in 1927, Nie Rongzhen praised Zhao Shiyan: "Infinite loyalty to the party and the cause, going deep among the masses in his work, living a hard and simple life, fighting hard against the enemy, adhering to principles and being enthusiastic and amiable to comrades, Comrade Shiyan is a noble communist."
