On January 19, 1913, Zhou Liang was born in present-day Dongzhi, Anhui. The Zhou family was a large family of Scholars, and their great-grandfather was Zhou Fu (closely related to Li Hongzhang and Yuan Shikai) in the late Qing Dynasty. At the age of 8, Monday Liang entered a private school, through the history of the subset, touch the bypass. He received a good Western-style education from an early age, and in 1930 (17 books) he entered Yenching University and later into the History Department of Fu Jen University.

In 1935 (at the age of 22), after graduation, Zhou Liang entered the graduate school of Yenching University to study history. Zhou Liang studied the history of the Wei and Jin Dynasties, often went to Tsinghua University to observe Chen Yinke's lectures, and admired Chen Yinke. After graduation, Zhou Liang entered the Institute of History of the Academia Sinica and often exchanged letters with Chen Yinke to discuss difficulties.

In 1939 (at the age of 26), Zhou Liang went to the United States to study under the sponsorship of the Harvard Yenching Society. He studied in the Department of Far Eastern Languages at Harvard University, majoring in Japanese literature and studying Both Sanskrit and Buddhism. In 1944, he received his doctorate and returned to China to teach at Yenching University.

In 1947 (at the age of 34), he transferred to Tsinghua University and followed Chen Yinke. In 1953, Zhou Liang published an article entitled "Western Sinology and Hu Shi", which slandered Hu Shi, who had once been close and respected, and called him a "cultural comprador". In 1954, he also participated in the national literary and art circles' huge criticism of Yu Pingbo's "Study of the Dream of the Red Chamber".

In 1963 (at the age of 50), when Chen Yinke was compiling the "Series", he deleted the preface to the record of the relationship between the teacher and the student on Monday to show that he had broken off relations. Monday Liang once received an anonymous letter, the upper paragraph called "Monday Liang Dao Brother", the letter in large brush letters "Shameless You", the payment is "an old friend". In 1999 (at the age of 86), at the academic conference on the 110th anniversary of Chen Yinke's birth, he published "Asking Mr. Chen for His Guilt": "I believe that I, a disciple who has lost his way and returned home, will definitely not treat me with the punishment of breaking the door again in the future, but as before... Just like on the steamship of Tsinghua New West Courtyard and Pier 26 in Brooklyn, New York, Lingnan University Southeast District No. 1 is as harmonious and warm as that. ”

On October 23, 2001, Zhou Liang died at the age of 88.
