Xiao Hong's "Hand", but not outdated comparison and criticism

author:Yu Xun

I still looked at the pattern on the floor, and I thought her tears were much more noble than my sympathy.

Continue to read Xiao Hong's works, a "Small Town March" recorded many of the short stories she wrote, and when I saw the "Hand", I couldn't help but want to write a feeling.

This article tells the story of a girl from a dyeing shop from the countryside who went to school. Since she had to help her father dye cloth during the holidays, her hands were always blue, black or even purple. Because of this pair of hands, the principal and classmates discriminated against her.

The principal did not allow her to participate in the school exercises, because when she did the exercises, everyone stretched out their arms and hands and came white, and she looked particularly special. She knew this, so she asked her father to wear a pair of gloves, but the principal felt that this was still special, after all, in the eyes of the principal, neat and uniform, white arms are things that give the school principal face.

Classmates discriminated against her, discriminated against her hands, discriminated against her poverty, discriminated against her soil, discriminated against her identity. They thought she was dirty, from her hands, from her clothes, from her luggage. No one wanted her to live in the dormitory, and she had to live in the aisles every night with her luggage rolls.

Her hands were terrible, but her heart was particularly pure.

She knew that she had come to school to study and to share the burden with her father. She was very diligent, from morning to night, and rarely stopped. But in the end, the school did not give her a chance to take the exam, only coldly judged: "No need to take the exam, you can't pass." ”

Why, why?

When my father heard this, although it was a pity, he still cared for her, let her wear warmth, put on gloves, and put on her woolen boots, and said.

"Come again, take the book home and read it again."

A naïve man, a pure heart, though with terrible hands.

Xiao Hong looks at the protagonist sympathetically in the first person, but there is a limit to what she can do, and she cannot change the world's view of the protagonist, which is a reality.

It is also a reality that the crowd avoids her, dislikes her, dislikes her, and does not give her a chance.

The gap between the rich and the poor and discrimination in that era made many poor and rich people look different, but our protagonist can still maintain her own authenticity in the cold eyes, she does not steal, does not rob, does not hate with people, and is even stupid, unwilling to believe the malice of others towards her.

On the contrary, those rich people who have no worries about food and clothing, those who do not learn and have no skills, their hands are so clean and white, but their hearts are cold and heartless.

In contrast, in our time, is this discrimination really completely eliminated?

In school, in society, there are still hearsay.

Xiao Hong's "Hand", the reality of criticism, will not become obsolete until now.
