During the trip, there is one thing that everyone has to do, and that is to go to the toilet. Whether the toilet is hygienic or not can almost determine the final impression left by a scenic spot for tourists. In a sense, the "toilet revolution" was proposed to improve the environment of scenic spots. The "water-free flushable toilet" introduced in this article is a model of the "toilet revolution" at the technical level. How can "water-free flushable toilets" lead the trend of a new generation of toilets? How to achieve water-free flushability? How can it adapt to scenic spots in various environments? Please listen to wu Hao, the inventor of "water-free flushable toilet", the founder, chairman and general manager of Beijing Lanjieshi Science and Technology Development Co., Ltd., carefully explain to you.

World Wide Web: Why did you think of inventing a "water-free flushable toilet" at that time?

Wu Hao: Actually, at that time, I didn't want to start a business, nor did I want to be an inventor. The matter began in 1999, when the first company in China's environmental protection toilet industry to produce "bag toilets" asked me to help. "Bag toilet" is a kind of toilet where feces and urine are packed in plastic bags, which is now rare. This matter was later stranded, and although a group of people including me who went to help had a lot of resources but did not have products to cooperate with, they could not continue to go on. Friends propose or invent, or simply imitate the "bag toilet". At that time, I thought that imitation might be illegal, and second, I felt that imitation was humiliating, so I came up with another technical solution for water-free toilets, not only water-free, but also flushing, so that "water-free flushable toilets" were born.

World Wide Web: Please briefly introduce the process of inventing the "water-free flushable toilet".

Wu Hao: "Water-free flushable toilets" belong to a type of water-free toilet, which is called "environmental protection toilet" in China, or "ecological toilet" and "mobile toilet". Now the international common name is "sanitary toilet without sewers". The first domestic market with such a toilet demand is a tourist attraction. In the 90s of last century, there were very few toilet products that could be selected in scenic spots, and at that time, this kind of environmentally friendly toilet was not popular, and at that time, in addition to the water flushing toilet, the scenic spot was actually a dry toilet, that is, a stinky pit.

Certificate of China Patent Excellence Award

At the beginning, we thought of the development of "water-free flushable toilet" this thing is simple, after forming the idea, we thought that it may only take a few months to realize our vision, in fact, we spent two full years to develop and produce the first prototype, applied for a patent, and in these two years, basically directly spent hundreds of thousands of yuan of the company's original funds. The invention process also encountered a lot of twists and turns, halfway through the development, the partners felt that this matter was not worth investing so much energy, they all gave up, and when the development was successful, I was left alone. The successful development of the first prototype marked the realization of the original idea that the toilet could be flushed without the use of external water. It's still exciting and exciting to do something that no one else has done.

The internal structure of the "water-free flushable toilet"

Wu Hao: In our "water-free flushable toilet" system, we think that fresh is clean, sterile, hygienic, but the urine becomes foul after half an hour of fermentation. Therefore, when the urine just leaves the human body, it is collected and processed in time, processed into the flushing liquid required for the "water-free flushable toilet", and then saved, so that it does not stink for more than N days, and then uses these rinse liquids to rinse the stool. In short, there are two things we have to do: one is to make these rinses smelly, and the other is to make these rinses enough to flush the stool.

The advantage of our "Water-Free Flushable Toilet" products is that they can be used in places where there is no water, water, or even electricity. Water flushing toilets are all necessary for these external conditions. In addition, when the climate environment of ordinary toilets is relatively harsh, such as lower temperature, higher altitude, lower air pressure, etc., it is difficult to cope with water flushing toilets or other environmentally friendly toilet products. For example, in scenic spots in Tibet, we found that "water-free flushable toilets" are basically the same as they are used at low altitudes. In this way, compared with the peer products, it has obvious advantages, so in the past two years, our products have gradually increased in the plateau.

The reason why we have a clear advantage in Tibet is because other eco-friendly toilet products often require microbial decomposition. Microorganisms are relatively demanding on temperature, humidity, air pressure, oxygen content, etc., and even have certain requirements for the number of people who go to the toilet every day, too much is not enough, too little is not enough. Because microorganisms as living creatures have requirements for more and less feces, too much or too little will cause problems, too few microorganisms will starve to death, too many microorganisms will not be digested, and feces will stink. In highland areas, the flow of people, climate, etc. are unstable, so many environmentally friendly toilet products often fail to operate normally after a year or two of experiments, and eventually fail. However, our "water-free flushable toilet" does not require microorganisms, it is an electromechanical product, and its reliability and stability are very strong in comparison.

Wu Hao: From the successful development of the "water-free flushable toilet" to the present, more than 20 years have passed, and I have also entered many scenic spots. At present, there are about 100 scenic spots in the country that use "water-free flushable toilets". These include the Forbidden City in Beijing, the Ming Tombs and Yinshan Tallinn, Sichuan Jiuzhaigou and Siguniang Mountain, Jiangxi Lushan and other famous scenic spots are used. Recently, our "water-free flushable toilets" have been put into use more in high-altitude areas such as Tibet and Qinghai.

Take the "water-free flushable toilet" used in the Forbidden City as an example, which is not only a classic case of our company, but also a classic case of the environmental protection toilet industry. The toilet set two industry records: One was the longest continuous use and operation, from 2003 to 2019, a total of 16 years. The "water-free flushable toilet" currently used outside the Xihua Gate of the Forbidden City was newly built in 2019 and still uses our products. So far, the Forbidden City has been using our "water-free flushable toilet" product for 18 years; the second record is the number of people going to the toilet every day, that is, the flow load it carries may be the largest, and the toilet may need to carry thousands of people per day.

In addition, we set a record for the highest altitude water-free toilet case of 5410 meters on the Tibetan Plateau.

Our "water-free flushable toilets" were first used in Tibet in 2001. It is currently used in more than a dozen places in three or four scenic spots in Tibet, including Namtso and Yangzhuo Yongcuo, as well as some places that cannot be named.

World Wide Web: Tell us about your company's strategy in the face of the toilet revolution? And please look forward to the toilet revolution and the prospect of "water-free toilets"?

Interview with Wu Hao, inventor of "water-free flushable toilet": make it more convenient to build toilets

Wu Hao: People in the toilet industry think that there are actually at least two toilet revolutions. First, the policy-oriented toilet revolution that everyone knows, which is to meet the current tourism market or the rural market for a big reform, to change the living environment of farmers, to make up for the last shortcomings of peasant life, to let scenic tourists enjoy a more hygienic environment.

Another implication of the toilet revolution is actually a revolution in the upgrading of toilet technology that is currently being faced. This means that the toilet used to be from the era of dry toilets to the era of water flushing toilets, and now it is likely to enter the era of "no sewer sanitary toilets" from the era of water flushing toilets, that is, the future toilets can be as hygienic as water flushing toilets, and they can be very environmentally friendly, and they can not use water, or do not pollute water sources.

Strategically, our strength is now technology. We will insist on making the technology more refined, more mature, more cheap, and then in the face of the market and the needs and calls of the country, do our best, do what we can, so that our products can meet more users, but also be compatible with the environment, optimize the use of the environment.

I think the future of the toilet revolution is bright, but it won't be as fast as many people think, so overnight. Because the update and iteration of technology has its own development law, the development of the market also has its own law.

Looking forward to the prospect of "water-free flushable toilets", I believe that "water-free flushable toilets" as our inventions, our innovative technology, we are full of confidence in its prospects. I also believe that our "water-free flushable toilet" technology will become more and more mature, the product will become more and more stable, the price will become cheaper and cheaper, and it will be accepted by more and more target customers.

World Wide Web: Please say a few words to netizens.

Wu Hao: Most netizens like to travel, and I wish them more when they enter tourist attractions to meet our "water-free flushable toilet". Of course, most people may not know that this is a "water-free flushable toilet" when using the toilet, thinking that this is a water flush toilet, because the appearance is too similar. I hope that netizens can recognize our "water-free flushable toilet" or make valuable comments. (Text/Photo by Zhang Xiaofang)
