Chief reporter of Jimu News Rong Yu

Dialogue Characters:

Guo Xiaodong, born in 1974, a native of Linyi, Shandong, is a famous actor. Graduated from the Beijing Film Academy in 2000, he was nominated for Outstanding Actor at the 10th China Film Huabiao Awards, and his starring film "Warm" won the Best Film Award at the 16th Tokyo International Film Festival.

Dialogue Background:

In the movie "My Father Jiao Yulu", which was released in August this year, Guo Xiaodong was invited to play Jiao Yulu, the honorary winner of the "Most Beautiful Strivers" and the former secretary of the Lankao County Party Committee in Henan. The film is a film project created by the Propaganda Department of the Hubei Provincial Party Committee of the Communist Party of China for the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China, jointly produced by Hubei Yangtze River Film Group and other countries, and is currently being screened in major theaters across the country.

On September 19, Jimu News reporters interviewed Guo Xiaodong and listened to him talk about how to create a good party member, a good cadre, and a good father on the big screen.

Use all your strength to play Secretary Jiao

Reporter: Jiao Shouyun, the second daughter of Secretary Jiao Yulu, said in an interview with us before that their whole family recognizes the "father" you play. Did this review relieve you the most stress when you picked up the movie?

Guo Xiaodong: In fact, at that time, this role found me, and my biggest pressure came from the fact that Teacher Li Xuejian had already acted in a classic version, whether it was the creation of the actor or from the perspective of film art, his version was a height in the history of Chinese cinema, which was a lot of pressure for me. But I also have a great motivation, that is, I especially want to play Secretary Jiao, he is the spiritual idol of our generation, or even generations, I have always wanted to play such a positive energy, temperature, love, and responsibility in my heart, he is very compatible with the role I yearn for in my heart. From another point of view, I have been waiting for the role of Secretary Jiao Yulu for so many years.

Reporter: The staff told us that you spent nearly 6 months visiting and experiencing the place where Secretary Jiao worked and lived before his death. Few actors now have the luxury of preparing.

Dialogue with Guo Xiaodong, the male protagonist of "My Father Jiao Yulu": When an actor, he must speak with "hard kung fu"

Guo Xiaodong: I can say this, I must use all my strength to play Jiao Yulu well, otherwise I am sorry for these three words. This kind of biographical role is very difficult to play, all his things are familiar to us, as an actor, how do you turn all the events he experiences into your own growth, into all your subconscious actions and behaviors, this is a matter of effort.

To tell the truth, I was still very nervous until I was about to start the camera, although I spent so long to experience life, but it was really too difficult, I was confused, in the end how to enter the heart of Secretary Jiao, I can only look at a large number of text materials, video materials, until the day before the start of the test shooting, the moment the lens opened, I suddenly wanted to understand!

I always tell people that I admit that I am a very stupid actor, I really don't know how to capture the state of the character in an instant, I need to penetrate, to integrate, to understand, step by step, and then to release bit by bit, I can only do this. For me, this half a year is worth it.

Reporter: I heard that you were 81 kilograms before booting, and after booting, it became 66 kilograms. We watch the movie, and you're already skinny like a changed person in the second half. It seems that in order to perform the state of water shortage, you don't drink water all day on the set.

Guo Xiaodong: There are many kinds of actors, different actors have different creative methods, I am a stupid actor, I have no way to play a very thirsty and dry state when my lips are very wet, I can't act. When I made this movie, I didn't let myself eat enough from beginning to end, and I was at most 30% full every day, and finally I reached the point where I didn't want to eat anything. When I was filming the Lankao scene, I was only 66 kilograms, and then the second sister (Jiao Shouyun) told me that you can't lose weight anymore, and everyone looked at it with pain.

We always need the spirit of Jiao Yulu

Reporter: The main theme of the movie is actually difficult to act, and I am most afraid of the hero's face. Would you figure out a way to design some action or emoticon to make the character more vivid?

Guo Xiaodong: I never thought about how to design this character, I thought about how to let myself enter his heart, become him, feel him, and have a spiritual dialogue with him, which is extremely important. I want to fully feel everything about Secretary Jiao from the inside, and then show it properly through my words and demeanor. When you really believe that you are this character, the so-called design is no longer important, to be honest, those design things are mirages, and the wind blows and disappears. What really stands and can stay is your true feelings, which is the most important thing.

Dialogue with Guo Xiaodong, the male protagonist of "My Father Jiao Yulu": When an actor, he must speak with "hard kung fu"

Reporter: I remember you said that "My Father Jiao Yulu" is "not afraid of people watching, only afraid of people not coming to see."

Guo Xiaodong: Yes, in fact, this movie has a particularly high rating on the Internet, and people who have seen it have commented that it is particularly good. I have a friend who said that I originally thought it was a main theme movie, and everyone came to see the spiritual idol Jiao Yulu, but I didn't expect to see a wife's husband, a mother's son, a child's father, an ordinary county party secretary, and a flesh-and-blood party member in the movie. I was particularly touched by these evaluations, in fact, what do you say an actor can do for society, where is your responsibility? After watching everyone's evaluation of this movie, I feel that I have done something very meaningful, and I have brought such a high level of spiritual sharing to everyone through my profession, profession, and performance, which is the real value of the actor.

Reporter: After acting in this movie, do you have any new feelings about "why do we need the spirit of Jiao Yulu"?

Guo Xiaodong: From my own small point of view, in the past, Lankao, because of the three harms of "waterlogging, wind and sand, and salinity and alkali", almost no grass was born, and the people were displaced, but when you go to Lankao today, you already dare to call the sun and the moon for a new day, and you have completely changed a place. If you look at the face of the local city and look at the smiling faces of the people, you will know why we continue to promote the spirit of Jiao Yulu. We can have a happy life today because there are a group of good cadres like Secretary Jiao Yulu, who are dedicated to serving the people, always serving the people, standing in front of us, supporting us with a piece of heaven, and helping all the people to prosper together, and we will always need this spirit.

Don't take down a person's origins and dreams

Reporter: You are the "son-in-law of Wuhan", and everyone likes you very much. But you rarely promote yourself, and you don't like to be in the limelight. In Vanity Fair, where the "back wave" frantically chases the "front wave", how to maintain this concentration?

Guo Xiaodong: The biggest determination is that you have good works and become an irreplaceable actor. Your heart is worthy of the word "actor", and you can eat on it. I really haven't tried to promote anything for so many years, and actors can do their job well, use works, use professional speech, better than anything. At present, as long as your profession is excellent, your acting is good, and your singing is good, you will definitely become an evergreen tree. Any profession needs to speak with hard kung fu, as long as you are capable, you will not be afraid of anything, and you can withstand all kinds of so-called temptations. I sincerely hope that I can be a qualified actor, not only as an actor, but also hope that through the profession of literary and artistic workers, I can convey a sense of responsibility to this society and pass on more temperature to everyone.

Reporter: You are a member of the "North Film 96 Star Class", when your classmates Huang Xiaoming and Chen Kun continued to make films during their time in school, did you envy them at that time?

Dialogue with Guo Xiaodong, the male protagonist of "My Father Jiao Yulu": When an actor, he must speak with "hard kung fu"

Guo Xiaodong: They became famous very early, really brilliant, I do envy them, but to be honest, I couldn't even pay the tuition fees at that time, and every day I thought about the practical problems of being able to eat and pay the tuition fees, and I didn't dare to think about them at all. By the time I graduated from college this year, I have been 21 years old, and I have also taken many works, and in this process, my cognition of myself, my cognition of life, and my cognition of life have changed greatly. Especially after filming "My Father Jiao Yulu", I had a new view of the definition of an actor, and I slowly rediscovered the importance of the profession of actor.

Reporter: From a small village in the Yimeng Mountains of Shandong Province, you have walked all the way to the colorful entertainment circle. Does it feel like a dream in retrospect?

Guo Xiaodong: I didn't expect me to get to where I am today, I really didn't expect it. I am especially grateful to my profession, I often say that there are two things in a person's life that cannot be taken lightly, one is your origin, and the other is your dream. No one knows what your future will be, no matter how big your dreams are, no matter where you come from, as long as you are firm in your ideals, fight for it, and stride forward on the Kangzhuang Avenue, you will definitely go to the other shore.

Now that I think about it, I really want to thank the open-air cinema, when I was a child, I grew up watching "Heroes and Children" and "Shangganling" in the open-air cinema, and I knew the Bayi Film Studio, the Beijing Film Studio... At that time, I was particularly yearning. Seriously, we turn back now and look back at our lives, and you don't even know when you had your ideals and dreams. In my time, living in a small isolated mountain village, dreams were actually a very luxurious thing, but my dream was to be an actor. I was lucky enough to be haunted by my dreams and came to Beijing.

My origin is in the Yimeng Mountains, and I can't choose my historical background, but because I have dreams and original intentions, I am always moving forward. This is what life has taught me, life is like this, always with ideals in mind, striding forward.
