Xiao Yin in Yan'an 1

After arriving in Yan'an, he worked as a correspondent for the National Society

The first report written

Chen Jiaji

At the end of July 1938, Xiao Yin (then known as Xiao Ying) arrived in Yan'an from Wuhan via Xi'an, and immediately entered the Lu Xun Art Institute to study, becoming the first batch of students in the newly opened Literature Department.

In Luyi, Xiao Yin was deeply infected by the revolutionary spirit of Lu Yiyi, who not only actively threw himself into his studies, but also joined the Communist Party of China, completing the transformation from a young man who rose up and fought against the old system of the old society to a revolutionary fighter who had to overthrow the social system and consciously fought for the interests of the toiling masses all his life.

In 2020, we discovered a report written by Xiao Yin during his studies that had never been seen before in Xiao Yin's memoirs and articles on Xiao Yin's research.

Xiao Yin reported to the outside world that the little-known young people of Yan'an Luyi were full of vigor and vitality. The report was published in Xinhua Daily on October 28, 1938, and in Battle magazine on November 7, 1938.

The two stories were published with slightly different titles. The title of the Xinhua Daily was "The Art of The War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression in Fushi - The Contour Painting of Lu Xun Art Academy" (Fushi is the old name of Yan'an); the title of "Battle" magazine was "Outline Painting of Lu Xun Art Academy".

Xiao Ying, who published in Battle magazine on November 7, 1938, reported on "Outline Paintings of Lu Xun Art Academy"

In the article published in Xinhua Daily, the front bracket of the main text is "National Society Skin Shi Newsletter", which speculates that Xiao Ying was a correspondent appointed by the National People's Society at that time.

Why did Xiao Ying become a correspondent for the National Society?

In 1938, xiao Ying was ordered by the Eighth Route Army's wuhan office to lead Wang Jie, Bao Hui and other 6 young people from Wuhan to Yan'an via Xi'an, and had been working in the China Young Journalists Association led by Fan Changjiang in Wuhan and its periodical "News Reporter", and had not participated in the work of the "National Society".

The full name of "National News Agency" is "National News Agency", which was founded on January 3, 1938, and the president was Li Gongpu. After Xiao Ying arrived in Wuhan from southern Anhui province in January 1938, xiao Ying worked under Li Gongpu to register exiled students in the battlefield, and accompanied Li Gongpu to organize 3,000 young students to take a train to Shanxi to organize the "National Revolutionary University". The National News Agency also moved to Linfen, located in a factory of the office that was then preparing for the university.

This period of time should establish a solid personal relationship for Xiao Ying's future career.

From Linfen back to Wuhan, Xiao Ying went to work at the China Young Journalists Association. When he decided to defect to Yan'an, in order to ensure that the group of 7 people would not be tried to prevent the revolutionary youth from going to Yan'an by all means and set up posts to strictly interrogate the reactionaries, Xiao Ying obtained the official document of the "National Society" through his relationship and traveled in the name of the "Northwest Tour Group of the National Society". Xiao Ying also specially produced a small flag for the "Northwest Tour Group of the National Society". Along the way, he fought with the reactionaries and arrived safely in northern Shaanxi.

Since Xiao Ying was already serving as the "Qingji" officer in "Qingji" and was responsible for the editing and publishing work of the journal "News Reporter", the author deduced that it should be a natural thing for the National People's Society to formally or orally appoint Xiao Ying as a "correspondent of the National Society". Perhaps it is precisely because of this that we have seen the above report issued by him in the name of the "National Social Skin Distribution Newsletter".

Outside the north gate of an ancient city on the Loess Plateau, there are dense deserts, several stone pillars accompanied by the archway of the "Temple of Literature" peeling off by the red. There are also a few remnants of half-obliterated righteousness and shame on the ruins, which show that there were once majestic palaces and golden splendor here, but in the continuous progress of the wheel of the times, only lonely desolation remained around him!

With the rising tide of resistance against the enemy, everything in this ancient city of Yan'an was revived vigorously. In the earthen caves outside this desolate north gate, countless young people are also active. They picked up hoes and pens and worked tirelessly and studied. They proudly sang: "We are art workers, we are fighters of the Anti-Japanese Resistance, we are stepping on the road opened up by Lu Xun, we are making unremitting efforts to ,...... in order to establish a new art of resistance against Japanese aggression, and to inherit his revolutionary traditions." All this also shows that in the ruins and desolation of this desert, a new art of resistance is being created.

This spring, in order to commemorate the "128", there was a collective creation of "Blood Sacrifice Shanghai". These three-act dramas have been performed more than ten times in Yan'an, and each time they have been well received by all sides. In this case, there is a need to organize art schools. In order to meet this practical objective requirement, the Lu Xun Art Institute was born. Almost all of the students in the first group came from Kang Da and Shaanxi Gong, and at that time there were only three departments of art, drama and music, and the number of students was less than 100. After a month of class, in order to review their grades, they immediately held an art exhibition and a theatrical music performance, which had already achieved amazing results in this short period. Later, there were continued Performances of the May Thirtieth Festival, the Anti-Japanese War Music Evening, and the Performances of the July 1-7 Theater Festival, which further coaxed the whole of Yan'an. They wrote a lot of new plays, new songs, minor keys, folk songs, woodcuts, comics, almost everywhere, all of which they did their best to organize and promote. Recently, an experimental troupe was set up, and soon they will certainly be able to make new contributions to the whole country, as well as the Woodcut Research Society, which is ready to hire Soviet writers to guide and do further research.

The education plan of Lu Xun Art Institute is based on three months, after reading the first period, go to the outside for internship for three months, and then come back to study for three months before graduating. In July, the first phase of the first batch of students was completed and distributed to the front line and rear for internship. In order to be able to show good results in the short term, in order to meet the objective needs, the second session was expanded, and the Department of Literature was added, and the original enrollment was 150, but now it has reached 200. Although the admission requirements are not strictly prescribed, at the minimum, there must be considerable artistic accomplishment and skills. More than 300 people came to the examination this year, and only three-fifths of them could be admitted.

The vice president is Mr. Shakov, and the teachers are Zhou Yang, Ding Li, Xu □ Yong, Sha Ting, He Qifang, WoZha, Hu Yichuan, Lü Ji, Xiang Yu, Zuo Ming, Zhang Geng, Cui Wei, Wang Zhen, etc. There were also Luo Fu, Cheng Fangwu, Ding Ling, etc., who were busy and took time to go there to give speeches. These people can give up the life of pampering in the past, and wear drafting shoes, eat millet, live in cave dwellings, and constantly work for the art of the War of Resistance. Because of the lack of teachers and materials, the main thing is still to rely on students' automatic learning. Therefore, in the earthen caves, on the grassy grass, on the edge of the cliffs, you can often see their enthusiastic collective study, seminars, rehearsals, songs, painting, writing. They all work tirelessly to learn every minute and second. As for the curriculum, the Department of Literature has Art Theory, Studies of Old Forms, World Literature, History of Chinese Literary and Art Movements, Studies of Famous Works, Russian Language, and Creation; the Department of Fine Arts has Anatomy, Perspective, Art Symposium, Field Sketching, Indoor Sketching, Chinese Literary and Art Movement, Art Theory, and Social Sciences; the Department of Music has Introduction to Music, Composition Law, Conducting, Ear Training, Sight Singing Instrument Practice, Art Theory, Chinese Literary and Art Movement, and Social Science; the Department of Drama has Word Reading, Makeup Techniques, Introduction to Drama, Rehearsal, Drama Writing, and Performance. In addition to these, the departments have various research groups and extracurricular cultural activities.

The difficulties of Yan'an's material conditions are known to everyone, especially the newly founded "LuYi", which is even more difficult in material terms. Because there is no room, students often study in the rain and sun, living in the wind and sand. They do not succumb to this evil situation alone, on the contrary, they overcome all difficulties with the greatest strength at all times!

Sometimes, they mingled with the workers, helping the cooks cook and the workers carry the bricks and stones. They are not afraid of hardship, they are not afraid of difficulties, although they eat millet, wear straw shoes, live in cave dwellings, and sleep on the floor, but they are very happy and lively. They live a disciplined life, learn the spirit of hard-working, often have enthusiastic life review meetings, oppose individualism and the loose artist style of the past, and emphasize spiritual unity and mutual help,......

In short, they closely link theory and practice. In such a difficult learning environment, the artistic youth who have been trained can not only take a pen, but also a gun!
