In the 1950s, Huangmei opera gradually grew from a local small drama in Anqing to a national drama and became famous in exotic places. Master Yan Fengying played a great role in promoting it.
Yan Fengying began to learn to sing Huangmei tune at the age of 10, and at the age of 12, he learned to sing Huangmei opera at the age of 12, taking the stage name Fengying; in 1946, he left Huangmei opera for some reason, and later received the guidance of the famous old artist Ding Yongquan; in 1947, he learned to sing Beijing opera with Hu Jintao and Liu Fengyun; after 1949, he studied with the famous actor Bai Yunsheng of Beikun; in 1952, the first East China opera performance held in Shanghai, Yan Fengying won wide praise for the traditional Huangmei opera "Playing Pig Grass" and the folding play "Road Encounter"; in 1953, he joined the Huangmei Drama Troupe in Anhui Province In 1954, he became famous throughout the country for playing the Seven Fairies in the Huangmei drama movie "Heavenly Immortals". And Huangmei opera has changed from a local small drama in Anhui Province to a drama that is well known throughout the country.
From 1953 to 1965, her level of performing arts also continued to soar, forming a unique style characteristic, representing the highest level of Huangmei opera performing arts at that time, and playing an important role in the formation of the style of the play.
In the past 13 years, Yan Fengying has performed more than 50 large and small plays, especially the seven fairies sculpted in "Tianxian Matching" and the artistic image of Feng Suzhen in "Female Pony", which has become her representative work and a treasure in Huangmei opera.
Yan Fengying's singing voice is bright and sweet, euphemistic and beautiful, and the charm is strong, absorbing the strengths of Peking Opera, Yue Opera, Commentary, Pingtan, Folk Songs, etc., integrating them into a family of its own, known as "Yan Pai", widely circulated. In his short artistic life, Yan Fengying starred in more than 20 major plays, nearly 30 small plays, in addition to making 3 movies, and has performed with Wang Shaofang for comrades such as party and state leaders Mao Zedong, Liu Shaoqi, Zhou Enlai, Zhu De, etc. He was praised by Comrade Tian Han as "Mei Lanfang in Huangmei Opera" and was called "the Grandmaster of a Generation" of Huangmei Opera by the Chinese people.
