The most favorite emperor in history to do business - Liu Hong, the Han Ling Emperor

author:A little bit of history

From the time Qin Shi Huang became emperor in 221 BC to the abdication of Puyi, the last emperor of the Qing Dynasty, in 1912, the Chinese imperial system has experienced a total of 2132 years, with a total of 494 emperors, of which 73 were not reigned and were posthumously honored after their deaths. Among them, Liu Hong, the Ling Emperor of the Eastern Han Dynasty, was known as the emperor who liked to do business the most.

Emperor Ling of the Eastern Han Dynasty, courtesy name Liu Hong (156--189), was the eldest son of Liu Cang, Marquis of Xieduting, grandson of Emperor Zhang, and mother of the Dong clan. In the first month of the first year of Jianning (168), the 12-year-old Liu Hong was welcomed into the Luoyang Imperial Palace by Empress Dou, and the next day he succeeded to the throne as emperor. The following year, the year name was changed to Jianning. The king of a great country, above all the people, the people, money, and things under the whole world are all his, why does he still like to do business? After Liu Hongyuan was a marquis, his family was not very wealthy, so after he became emperor, he felt that he had land and real estate in his heart. So he took the money and wealth of the looted people back to his hometown in Hejian to buy a farmhouse and start a first view. Some of the money remaining was deposited in the eunuch's house, and the family deposited tens of millions. A eunuch named Lü Qiang felt that the Heavenly Son of Tangtang still bought a field house and was not a system, so he advised Shang Shu that "all the property in the whole world belongs to His Majesty, and His Majesty is supreme, and it is not appropriate to buy private land and private houses." After emperor Ling saw Lü Qiang's recital, he threw it aside and ignored it. He also set up a city in the harem, where the palace ladies sold goods and stole and fought with each other, and he took off his dragon robes, changed into the clothes of merchants, and drank and feasted in the city houses.

In addition to buying a farmhouse, Emperor Ling also openly sold officials to make money. He hung the open price of the betrayed official in the West Garden: two thousand stone officials, paying twenty million yuan; four hundred stone officials, paying four million yuan; county orders, county beggars, bargaining in person. There are good and bad, and the price is high or low. Go to a rich place and pay cash. Poor areas negotiate the price first, and then double the payment after taking office. Except for the position of emperor, which is not sold, other official positions can be bought with money.

Eunuchs indulged in power, the Ling Emperor was absurd, and the bureaucratic landlords were greedy for money and extravagance, which made the already sharp class contradictions reach a fever pitch, triggering a vigorous peasant uprising, the Yellow Turban Rebellion led by Zhang Jiao in the first year of Zhongping (184). Although the Yellow Turban Rebellion was suppressed, the Eastern Han Dynasty was also seriously injured. In the sixth year of Zhongping (189), Emperor Ling died in the Jiade Hall of Luoyang Palace, ending a short and absurd life. He was 34 years old. After his death, he was buried in Wenling, northwest of Luoyang. His nickname was "Spirit Emperor".
