English Learning Experiences and Insights - 2017

<col>

Last year, I read my first original book, The Chronicles of Narnia 1, with a total of 41,791 words, which took a total of 2 months. In December, I made a vision to "read a million (words)" this year, which seems like an impossible task, but I believe that as the amount of reading increases, the reading speed can be greatly improved. Later, he changed his mind and turned his energy to the GRE test. 1/2/3/4 months are memorizing SAT and GRE words, studying its fill-in-the-blank questions (24 sets of basic fill-in-the-blanks twice), reading but failing to open several times, deeply feeling that the internal strength is not enough, the difficulty is really there. After careful consideration, it was decided to use the method of reading the original English novel to "revitalize" the vocabulary memorized with the app and improve reading ability.

Four months to memorize sat and GRE more familiar! And a hundred words to cut off is also the end.

English Learning Experiences and Insights - 2017

Memorizing words is like being enchanted, and a day never falls until the end.

Probably the end of June or the beginning of July, I can't remember, I started reading Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, 76, 944 words, and read it on August 2nd, not as difficult as I thought, but more interesting than I thought, although I didn't read English books for interest. After reading Ha 1 do not know what to read, I began to read the "Tale of Two Cities" that I did not finish reading last year, 130,000 words, the words are difficult, the sentences are obscure, the teeth are persistent, and I read it on August 31, without a bad ending. On a day off, I can read more than 10,000 words a day, and 10% progress, which gives me a lot of confidence. Habitually caught in the difficult period of choosing books, re-read "The Little Prince" and read it in a few hours. Since reading can quickly end for the second time, I suddenly have a bold idea, if you read 1 million words of English books this year, and then read repeatedly, vocabulary, reading, and writing will definitely have a qualitative leap. After all, the words that rely on a hundred words are too fucking unreliable, and it is common to be confused when reading articles.

After hesitating for a while, he bought the Harry Potter e-book on Amazon and read it with a Kindle. Although it is more expensive, but the book of interest, the closest to the present, the wording should be closer to the present, but also watched the movie, the sense of picture is strong. Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, 85, 141 words, read on September 14, with an average speed of more than 5,000 words per day. I was already feeling fast enough to read the full harry potter set this year (before December 31st). Later, I calculated it, but it didn't work at all, because the number and difficulty of words after this set of books increased book by book, and the time was far from enough. Later, I felt that I did not spend all my spare time reading, so starting with Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azban, I adopted the collapse reading method, using all the time I could use, 107,253 words, and read it in 9 days (September 14th to September 22nd). My confidence soared, and I made a plan at a rate of 12,000 words a day, strictly implementing the plan, and I could finish reading at the end of November and read the first set of books in my life a month in advance. Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, 190, 637 words, because there is a National Day holiday in between, read in 12 days (September 23 to October 3). Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, 257, 045 words, read in 17 days (October 4 to October 20). Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, 168, 923 words, read in 15 days (October 21 to November 4). Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, 204, 796 words, read in 17 days (November 7 to November 24). Later read The Hobbit, 95,692 words, 11/25/2017-12/6/2017. "Lord of the Rings 1 Rings Alliance" 178,794 words, 12/7/2017-12/29/2017. The Lord of the Rings 2: The Two Towers, 154, 450 words, 1/1/2018-1/22/2018. The Lord of the Rings 3 Returns the King, 108, 117 words, 1/23/2018—1/31/2018. I have also read the second set of original English books of my life.

Harry Potter cost nearly 180 oceans in total. A Tale of Two Cities is available in a free public version. "The Hobbit" and "The Lord of the Rings" are free versions of the mobi format they find.

English Learning Experiences and Insights - 2017

The Harry Potter set of books is 1.09 million words and 3837 pages. A good choice to read millions!

English Learning Experiences and Insights - 2017

The Hobbit plus The Lord of the Rings three books are less than half the word count of Harry Potter.

Later, "The Da Vinci Code", "Angels and Devils", "Watchmen of the Rye", "The Great Gatsby", "1984" and so on. In total, 26 books, nearly 3 million words.

About time: Last year found that the Internet and watching film and television dramas occupied my time more and did not produce too much value, I cut off the network cable, this year did not watch an episode of TV series, the movie only on the mobile phone and the cinema to see some special want to see, the computer is only used to edit some documents, even video data are not willing to watch, almost once a week to open ... Reflecting on this year, it was found that today's headline app is an app that wastes time and traffic and has poor article quality, and it is decisively uninstalled. Get the App, start to feel tall, listen more also feel shallow, is to listen to the news, can not get the complete structure and system, there is a little money in it, endure the pain of uninstalling... The general principle is that what takes up more of my time and has little income, I will "poison" it. Decisively end things that are not satisfied and waste a lot of time, and spend time on things with high satisfaction and long half-life. Use fragmented time to entertain when you're running out, and do attention-demanding things when you're full and energetic. The essence of time management is energy management, reading books and learning when energy is good, and entertainment and leisure when energy is not good. Don't put the cart before the horse, get up in the morning and brush vibrato to play games, and start learning before going to bed at night.

About choice: If you can choose, choose to do difficult things, because difficult things have the possibility of discovering fun, difficult things can be considered to have a threshold, and only when they are done can they be "difficult to see the coincidence". If you can choose, choose to do things that are consistent with your long-term goals, and don't do things that are not related to short-term goals even if they are "short, flat, and fast". The choice of form, the choice of ways and forms that are not so comfortable to do, comfortable means that there is no increase in difficulty, it means that there is no improvement... When you are right, you will find ways to maintain motivation, stay focused, and continue to work hard.

About gains and losses: Memorize words to the amount and extent you are satisfied with (SAT and GRE memorized to the sky), open the original book in time to read, give the "dead words" a strong background, and transform them into "living words". More adapted to the Grammar and sentence structure of English, from reading "The Little Prince" to "A Tale of Two Cities" without feeling the pressure; tempered the psychological endurance, not afraid of the "Economist" news within 1,000 words, not afraid of English novels within 200,000 words. Improved reading speed, from reading a 60,000-word "Narnia 1" in 2 months to reading 190,000 words of "Harry Potter 4 - Goblet of Fire" in 12 days. Adapted to getting information from words, no longer enthusiastic about video materials, I believe that I can understand more from the text... "Bad" is the most important thing without time, for example, the hottest film and television dramas, the hottest little fresh meat stars, the most crazy games, the biggest selling songs... I don't know. It's not a loss or a disadvantage, a different way of entertainment, personal choice only...

About the method: Do not believe in the method of continuous and gradual flow of thin water, believe that vigorous force can produce miracles, or give up completely. Today, it takes a lot of effort to break through the number, and after insisting on it for a while, the normal force can be completed, and the efficiency is increasing exponentially. Try not to look up the word, unless it has appeared several times, you are curious about it, or you have memorized it but blurred, and you can remember it after looking it up, otherwise, do not look up the word. You can refer to the Lance value when choosing books, don't be like me, come up and read the difficult book of "A Tale of Two Cities", which may bury the original book to read. You can start with the simplest, even if it is a juvenile book, or a novel for a child.
