International Online Report (reporters Li Xiuli and Gao Junya): Wei Wei is a project manager for a Chinese-funded company in Zimbabwe. He joined the Party for 13 years and worked in Africa for 13 years. At Robert Mugabe International Airport in Harare, Zimbabwe, Wei Wei from Jiangsu International Economic and Technical Cooperation Corporation Overseas Engineering Company No. 1 is leading Chinese and foreign teams to renovate, expand and build Mugabe International Airport into a more modern air transportation hub for More Modern Zimbabwe and more routes.
Wei Wei said: "As a key project of cooperation between the Chinese government and the Zimbabwean government, the reconstruction and expansion of Harare International Airport will improve the overall business environment and the quality of civil airports in Zimbabwe, and also improve the operating environment of the airport. However, Harare Airport is a reconstruction and expansion project, the existing old airport is operating, we can not affect the operation of the old airport when the new airport is built, we need to stop construction. The risks and difficulties of this work are still quite large. ”

Not only to ensure the construction progress, but also not to affect the normal operation of the airport, in the face of this arduous task, Wei Wei led the team to face the difficulties. Adopting the operation mode of non-stop construction at night, the airport runway maintenance work was completed with high standards, high quality and high efficiency.
Wei Wei said: "We have about five or six hours of working hours every night, using 80 pieces of equipment to divide different processes and different processes, and carry out construction in an orderly manner. This requires that we must be strong in the organization, from the quality, safety to do a good job in response, in order to ensure the smooth completion of non-stop construction. There are many party members and comrades on our project, and the professional engineers of the runway are also party members, and those of us who are party members and comrades are rushing to the front, and then they can't take care of eating and drinking. ”
Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe Airport
As a "post-80s", Wei Wei has been working in Zimbabwe for more than 9 years and has participated in the construction projects of two Zimbabwean airports. In particular, the renovation of The Victoria Falls Airport in Zimbabwe's famous tourist city, which won the Zimbabwe Institute of Engineers Engineering Achievement Award in 2016. To achieve this achievement, it is inseparable from wei Wei and his colleagues' persistence and innovative spirit in facing difficulties.
Wei Wei said: "At that time, Victoria Falls City Airport wanted to build a new runway with a length of 4 kilometers and a width of 60 meters, which required a lot of stones. However, there is no quarry near a border city such as Waterfall City, which has caused great difficulties to the project. There are mines in Wange, about 100 kilometers from Waterfall City. With the assistance of the Tianjin Civil Aviation Bureau and the Ministry of Transportation, we ran to the old forest of the Wanji Mountains to explore the mine, and the memory is very clear that there are often elephant dung and lion dung around the periphery, and then there are only two roads up the mountain, which used to be asphalt roads, but only in the rutted places can you see the asphalt pavement all year round, and other places are washed away by rain, which is still quite difficult. We often have to run to the mountains to do exploration, after a period of time to find a more suitable mine, finally built a quarry, to ensure the supply of stone on the project, and to ensure the quality, of course, but also a good control of costs, to ensure that the project can be smoothly implemented. ”

Wei Wei's courageous spirit of responsibility has also touched the Zimbabwean partners. Tawanda Gusha, Acting Ceo of Zimbabwe Airports, commented, "As of now, the progress of the Harare Mugabe International Airport project is satisfactory, Wei Wei and his team have done a very good job, the project execution is very good, showing a high standard of high quality. Our cooperation with Wei Wei has also been quite smooth, and what I appreciate most is his spirit of facing difficulties, keeping his promises in his work, and even if he encounters difficulties, he will work hard to complete them. ”
In 2008, Wei Wei joined the Communist Party of China on the eve of graduating from university, and after graduation, he went to Africa to become an overseas project builder. For 13 years, he has participated in the construction of projects in Sudan, Djibouti and other countries. Under harsh natural conditions, the tenacious character of party members who are not afraid of hardship and difficulties is brought into play.
Wei Wei works outdoors in Sudan
Wei Wei said: "I was in Sudan in 2008, when I was doing the oil building jointly built by PetroChina and Sudan. Sudan's climate is harsh, the conditions are very harsh, the temperature is very high, and the outdoor temperature is around 50 degrees. My job was mainly to build the line, and I had a lot of outdoor work every day, and then I wore a straw hat and very thick, very protective glasses, and covered my entire face with a towel, and then I did it for a day. Because the ultraviolet rays are particularly strong, we wear cotton clothes and basically get spots on our backs in a week or so. Later, the company sent me to Djibouti, where the natural environment was similar to that of Sudan, and the most impressive thing was the beautiful sea and the sun-tanned stones. The project in Djibouti is called the Alta Hospital Project, which is located on Alta Hill, all stones, and we have to level the site, dig out all the big stones, and then build a hospital on top of it. At that time, the construction conditions were still quite difficult. However, in the past two years, the hospital has been built little by little, and the standards are relatively high, and the local Ministry of Health and government departments are particularly satisfied. ”
After working overseas for more than ten years, Africa has become Wei Wei's second hometown. In the african land full of hopes and challenges, Wei Wei dedicates his youth and talents to strive for the construction of Africa and the implementation of the "Belt and Road" initiative. Wei Wei said, "Looking at the buildings we have built, such as hospitals that improve the medical conditions of African people, the construction of some comprehensive office buildings that have contributed to africa's economic development, including the Zimbabwe National Stadium built in the 1980s, through the joint efforts and maintenance of the Chinese government and enterprises, more than 20 years later, it is still continuing to serve the African people, including the Victoria Falls Airport we built, which has brought unprecedented passenger traffic to world-renowned tourist attractions. Contributing to the economic development of Zimbabwe, I think we have paid both for it and for it. I think the struggle of our overseas comrades may be part of the joint construction of a community with a shared future for mankind and a powerful proof of the peaceful rise of our motherland. ”
