The 110th anniversary of Xinhai

Peng Jiazhen, a heroic martyr of Xinhai - commemorating the 110th anniversary of the Xinhai Revolution

On October 9, 2021, General Secretary Xi Jinping delivered a speech at the "Commemoration of the 110th Anniversary of the Xinhai Revolution": "The historical merits of Dr. Sun Yat-sen and the pioneers of the Xinhai Revolution for the Chinese nation are impressive! The heroes who fought bravely and sacrificed heroically in the Xinhai Revolution are famous in history! The Xinhai Revolution will always be a majestic milestone in the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation!

The Xinhai Revolution was a milestone in the overthrow of the feudal monarchy by the Chinese people. Countless revolutionary ancestors generously died for the ideals in their hearts, and built the cornerstone of peace and prosperity in New China with their blood. In Chengxiang Town, Qingbaijiang District, there is also such a heroic martyr of Xinhai - Peng Jiazhen.

Peng Jiazhen (彭家珍), courtesy name Xi Ru, was a native of Yaodu, Jintang, Sichuan (now part of Yaodu Town, Qingbaijiang District). After graduating from the Sichuan Wubei Academy in 1906, he went to Japan to study military affairs, and joined the Chinese League Association during his time in Japan, Peng Jiazhen accepted the revolutionary ideas advocated by Dr. Sun Yat-sen, and the flame of revolution quietly sprouted in his young heart. In the autumn of 1911, Peng Jiazhen served as an aide-de-camp of the Tianjin Military Station Headquarters, joined the League, and served as the military director of the Beijing, Tianjin and Bao branches of the League.

On January 1, 1912, Sun Yat-sen was inaugurated as the provisional president of the Republic of China and demanded the abdication of the Qing Emperor, but was strongly opposed by the princes and nobles of the Qing court headed by Liangbi, and established the "Sectarian Socialist Party" to maintain the constitutional monarchy, and Liangbi also asked himself to supervise the 100,000 Qing troops to go south and fight the revolutionary party to the death.

Liangbi is vicious and fierce, and his wrists are poisonous. In order to clear the revolutionary obstacles and realize the republican ideal, Peng Jiazhen decided to step forward and assassinate Liangbi with a bomb. He said: "Do not kill this man, the republic is desperate also." Although the good bow is strong, I stand alone." On January 24, 1912, he secretly investigated the defense of The Liangbi Jing Mansion, the route of travel, and the law of its activities. In the early morning of the 25th, he wrote the "Book of Death" to express his determination to die, and generously and boldly said: "If the republic is successful, even if it is dead, it is honorable; if the republic is not successful, it is also humiliated even if it is born." Instead of being humiliated, it is better to die proudly! On the night of the 26th, he blew up liangbi, the leader of the "sectarian socialist party", in front of the liang house of the Hongluo factory in Beijing, and he himself died heroically because of the shrapnel hitting the head. Liang Bi died, the Qing court was terrified, and the "clan socialists" scattered.

However, Peng Jiazhen, who wanted to "die proudly", died on the day of the assassination because of the shrapnel hitting the head, and Liang Bi, a fan of the decadent Qing court, was killed. On February 12, after Liangbi's death, Qing Xuan announced his abdication. Peng Jiazhen made immortal contributions to the overthrow of the imperial system and the establishment of the republic with the merit of a single bullet. Sun Yat-sen praised Peng Jiazhen: "My old Peng received meritorious projectiles" and posthumously awarded him the title of Army General and built a shrine to worship the martyrs. In 1953, Chairman of the Central People's Government Mao Zedong issued a "Glorious Commemorative Certificate for the Families of Revolutionary Martyrs" to Peng Jiazhen's family, commending Peng Jiazhen
