This version of "Thunderstorm" is directed by Pu Cunxin and Tang Ye, and starring Pu Cunxin, Gong Lijun, Bai Hui, Li Hongtao, Wang Junqi, Chen Hongxu, etc. The new creative lineup gives a new poetic interpretation of the classic.
Mr. Cao Yu's "Thunderstorm" is a household name in China and has been put on the stage in various art forms. Pu Cunxin said that this new row is not simply to reinterpret this story, but also to dig deep into the text resources of Beijing Renyi, "This script of the old dean must continue to be performed." ”
Pu Cunxin, who once played Zhou Ping in the play, has always had a "thunderstorm" dream in his heart, "The idea was four years ago, and two years ago I really started to prepare." We once introduced "The Wedding" of the Belarusian State Model Theatre, which is the 17th version of the play arranged by their troupe. I think we can also have many versions and different interpretations of "Thunderstorm". This is the attitude of our Beijing people. ”
In this new version, Pu Cunxin, who once played Zhou Ping, was "upgraded" to the old master Zhou Puyuan, and at the same time "upgraded" by Gong Lijun, who once played Prosperity, and Bai Hui, who once played Si Feng, this time, they became Lu Shuping and Fanyi respectively. Familiar actors, familiar roles, but the relationship between actors and roles, roles and roles, all give the audience an imaginary, but unexpected feeling.
Zhou Puyuan, played by Pu Cunxin, as a feudal parent who once had an experience in the West, was more presented on the stage with a complex image of openness and repression; Lu Ma, played by Gong Lijun, behind the hidden forbearance, is more tenacious and independent, and her every appearance and action carries the imprint of past life and rich emotional background; Bai Hui's role of Xuan Yi is more outward than in previous versions; Lu Gui, played by Li Hongtao, is no longer only the treacherousness of small people, but more of the father-daughter relationship with Si Feng. There is more rationality in this character's own position.
The outstanding performance of a group of young actors is quite amazing, Wang Junqi played by the young master Zhou Ping, highlighting the complex fragility of his inner weakness, Chen Hongxu played by Si Feng is impressive, simple and kind, this young actor fully presents the character's struggle in the entanglement of fate, helplessness and despair, and the wonderful performance maximizes the audience's empathy.

For example, Lu Shuping called 'Park Yuan' only time in the play, what kind of emotion is behind this? And who gave the gun in Zhou Ping's hand? We found these details from Mr. Cao Yu's 1934 uncut script. They're like clues, stringing them together and giving us different interpretations of the characters. Tang Ye said.
At the same time, the new version of "Thunderstorm" has added a prologue and epilogue, and there are some new presentations on the stage in some character relationships.
The entire stage presentation of the new version of "Thunderstorm" highlights the concept of "poetry". The "cloud" above the stage has become the visual center of the stage design, layered on top of each other, romantic and aesthetic and has a strong ideographic function. A local antique sofa in Wuxi in the 1920s and 1930s was put on the stage and became an important intention – to represent and witness the breeding of love and hate.
At the same time, according to the musical cues written in Mr. Cao Yu's original work, the play not only uses the foreshadowing of the fragment of the commentary" "Baotou Phoenix", but also integrates the elements of classical music and ethnic music through it, and finally ends with piano and strings, "This is a heavenly sound, which is the pity of Mr. Cao Yu's poetry."
