On November 7, 1917 (October 25 in the Russian calendar), accompanied by the rumble of the cruiser Aurora, the Bolshevik armed forces led by Lenin launched a general attack on the Hermitage in St. Petersburg, the seat of the bourgeois Provisional Government, overthrowing the Provisional Government and establishing Soviet power, which was the Russian October Revolution that shocked the world.
The cannons of the October Revolution prompted people to study Marxism-Leninism. Before and after the May Fourth Movement, Marxism attracted the attention of more and more progressive elements with its high degree of scientific and revolutionary nature.
Li Dazhao was the first person on the land of China to raise the banner of the Russian October Revolution. After the October Revolution, after in-depth study and reflection, li Dazhao began to publish articles such as "Comparative View of the French-Russian Revolution", "The Victory of the Common People", and "The Victory of Bolshevism" from July 1918, pointing out from a profound historical perspective that the victory of the October Revolution was the "victory of laborism", heralded the advent of the era of socialist revolution, and was "the dawn of a new civilization in the world". He prophesied with confidence: "If you look at the world in the future, it will be the world of red flags!" In his article "New Era" published on New Year's Day 1919, he further pointed out that the October Revolution opened up a "new era" in human history, which would "bring about a new life, a new civilization, and a new world", and that the people of Chinese should follow the path of the October Revolution. In October and November of the same year, Li Dazhao published the article "My View of Marxism" in two issues in The New Youth. In this article, he systematically introduced the Marxist materialist view of history, political economy and the basic principles of scientific socialism, fully affirmed the historical status of Marxism, and called it "the theory of the original movement of the transformation of the world." The publication of the article marked Li Dazhao's officialization as a Marxist. At the same time, Li Dazhao also used the school pulpit and the Marx Theory Research Association to organize young students to study the October Revolution and scientific socialism, which promoted the spread of Marxism in China.
In addition to Li Dazhao, a large number of advanced elements, such as Chen Duxiu, Mao Zedong, Cai Hesen, Zhou Enlai, Yang Zaian, and Li Da, combined their own personal experience and practice, through studying the experience of the October Revolution and Marxism, keenly felt the profound changes in the trend of world history, and quickly came to the conclusion of learning from the October Revolution in Russia and "taking the road of the Russians."
They actively founded progressive societies, published theoretical publications, debated with some anti-Marxist ideological trends, went deep among the working masses to carry out the work of popularizing and propagating Marxism, and promoted the widespread spread of Marxism in China, thus providing ideological and cadre conditions for the creation of a proletarian party in China.
