In the second stage, it conquered Yixian and Zaozhuang, and annihilated more than 20,000 enemy troops. He also captured Ma Liwu, commander of the enemy's 26th Division, and Zhou Yuying, commander of the 51st Division, when he captured Zaozhuang.
After the battle, the two defeated "elites of the nationalist army" were "escorted" to Su Yu's front-line headquarters.

Later, as a prisoner of war, Ma Liwu did not really understand Su Yu's "point allocation" and did not accept the reform very well. In 1963, he died in prison.
