The murderer of Li Dazhao was arrested

On the afternoon of April 28, 1927, Li Dazhao took a group photo with his friends Lu Yu (left) and Zhang Rulan (right) before taking up the uprising.

On June 5, 1951, Feng Jiping, deputy director of the Beijing Municipal Public Security Bureau and director of the Investigation Department, received a secret letter from the Public Security Bureau of the Ministry of Railways, in which Yan Zhenlang, a former agent of the Central Unification Department of the Housing Management Office of the Bureau, reported that the mastermind of Li Dazhao's murder that year, that is, Wu Yuwen, then director of the investigation department of Zhang Zuolin, under the pseudonym Bozao, was now living in Hougulou Bay, Beijing, hoping to quickly investigate and deal with it.

Feng Jiping immediately assigned the task to Deputy Director Di Fei. Di Fei returned to the office with the secret letter and immediately called the investigator Wen Zhenhai...

Overt and covert visits

The next morning, Wen Zhenhai rode to the Gulou area, mixed in the crowd and walked around casually, but his sharp eyes really looked at the door numbers of each family. After walking twice, I didn't find "Gulou Bay", so I went to the Gulou police station to inquire.

The reception police told Wen Zhenhai that "Gulou Bay" is now the old Gulou Street. Wen Zhenhai also asked to check whether there was an old man named Wu Bozai. When the police took the household registration book and turned to No. 4 Old Drum Tower Street, they found a person named "Wu Bozhai". 69 years old, Han ethnicity, Miyun County, the occupation column is written "old man", the rest of the columns are empty.

"Wu Bozhai is only one word away from the 'Wu Bozai' mentioned in the secret letter, and his age is similar. Although the secret letter did not write the specific house number, it drew a '' ★ in the house number position, which is likely to be a single digit, that is, a number between 1 and 9. ”

Wen Zhenhai thought in his heart, left the police station, ran straight to the old Drum Tower Street, and stood in an inconspicuous place to look at the courtyard door of No. 4. This courtyard door is not big or small, it is a more standard courtyard.

In the past, there was a saying in old Beijing: "Qianmen, Dongdan, Xisi, And front of the Drum Tower", which was once a famous bustling area in Beijing, and most of the people who lived here had money.

During the Qing Dynasty, only flag people were allowed to live here, and by the end of the Qing Dynasty, high-ranking officials and wealthy merchants among the Han people had successively moved to the inner city. This Wu Bozai has lived here for a long time, indicating that he was at least not a poor person in the past.

Wen Zhenhai decided to go inside to explore the truth, and when a person walked out of courtyard No. 4, he immediately stepped forward and asked, "Let's inquire about it, is there a person named Yu Yongkui living in this courtyard?" ”

Wen Zhenhai casually made up a sentence.

"Yu Yongkui? Haven't heard of it, you've found the wrong place, right? ”

"No, it's here!"

"Or, go in and ask yourself." The man said and left.

Wen Zhenhai set up his bicycle and entered the courtyard.

It seems that this place has become a large courtyard, and the houses in the east, west, south and north are inhabited by people, such as this house used to be Wu Bozai's, and after liberation, it was allocated by the government, which may leave him with the best north house. So he went straight to the North House. The door was unlocked, he knocked on the door, no one answered, then knocked, and shouted "Yu Yongkui, does Yu Yongkui live here?" ”

Shouting, he pushed the door and entered the house. Although the sun was shining outside, the interior was dimly lit and had a foul smell of mold.

"There's no one in this yard you're looking for."

Wen Zhenhai followed the sound, there was a bed on the east side of the house, and on the bed lay an old man, and the sound was from this old man's hair.

The first signs appeared

Wen Zhenhai walked over to look at it, the old man was very thin and sick. Wen Zhenhai said: "Excuse the old man, I looked for Yu Yongkui, and he told me that I lived at No. 4 Old Street of Gulou." ”

"Didn't I just say that there is no one you're looking for in this yard." The old man's tone was to rush Out to Wen Zhenhai.

"Old man, are you sick?" What's your last name? Are you living a long life? Why is there no one around to serve you? ”

"Alas! I'm old and can't live for a few days! The old man patted his left leg with his hand and said, staring at Wen Zhenhai with his eyes for a long time.

Wen Zhenhai felt that the old man was very old, his eyes were not old, and he was sharp.

When Wen Zhenhai walked out of the gate of the courtyard, the man who had just gone out just happened to come back and asked him busily: "What is the surname of the old man in the North House?" ”

"The surname Wu is called Old Man Wu." It was a kidnapper who couldn't get out for years. ”

Wen Zhenhai pushed the car into a nearby alley, and saw several uncles and aunts sitting there chatting.

He stood aside and listened for a while, then he led the topic to the celebrities and dignitaries living in this area: "Uncle, big mother, how many of you live in this area are very spirited!" There are many stores, lively, and not far from the pond, the scenery is good, and the officials can only live here in the past. ”

"But not much, there are really celebrities in our area, and the former Qingju people lived in the No. 1 courtyard, and the old man Wu in the No. 4 courtyard was also a big official before." A great uncle said after listening to Wen Zhenhai's words.

"Really? What kind of official is Old Man Wu? Wen Zhenhai asked busily.

"I heard that Grand Marshal Zhang Zuolin was served."

Major discoveries

Wen Zhenhai felt solid in his heart, and when he returned to the office, he reported to Deputy Director Di Fei. Di Fei listened to it and said happily, "Good! Well done, the comrades who checked the enemy's fake archives here have also gained a lot. ”

It turned out that after Di Fei arranged for him to go to the secret investigation, he asked several other investigators to look for clues from the enemy and puppet files they had taken over. In 1927, they found Wu Yuwen's name in a file of the Kuomintang Beiping City Police Department about awarding awards and promotions, and they served as the chief of the investigation department of the Beijing Normal Police Department.

For his meritorious service in the investigation and arrest of Li Dazhao and others, Chen Xingya, the superintendent of the Police Department of the Beijing Division, received a special reward from Zhang Zuolin, Chen Xingya was awarded the rank of lieutenant general of the army, and Wu Yuwen was promoted to the rank of lieutenant general of the army, and was awarded the Order of the Wenhu of the Second Class.

Chen Xingya and Wu Yuwen absolutely could not have imagined at that time that the list of awards and certificates would become evidence for their crimes in the future.

In order to fully grasp the evidence, Di Fei interrogated the detained old police officers and secret agents of the Central And Military Command who had blood debts at the Beiping City Police Station of the Kuomintang, who confirmed that Wu Yuwen had two aliases: Wu Bozhai and Wu Bozai, and exposed Wu Yuwen's participation in the suppression of the "129" student movement and a large number of other criminal acts.

The case was reported to Peng Zhen, secretary of the Beijing Municipal PARTY Committee, who believed that the evidence was conclusive and the crime was extremely heinous, and Wu Yuwen should be arrested immediately.

Arrest immediately

Peng Zhen demanded that the party's policies be strictly followed, and in the case of Li Dazhao's murder, only the main culprits were arrested: Wu Yuwen, director of the Investigation Department of the Beijing Normal Police Department, Chen Xingya, director of the Beijing Normal Police Department, Lei Hengcheng, deputy director of the Division, and Pu Zhizhong, director of the Judicial Department of the Beijing Division Police Department.

On June 20, 1951, a green jeep was parked in front of the courtyard of No. 4 Old Drum Tower Street. Yang Yongxuan, chief of the executive section, led several comrades into the courtyard. The old man wen zhenhai micha was still lying on the bed, and when he saw a few policemen coming in, he immediately understood something and struggled to stand up straight.

"Are you Wu Yuwen?" Yang Yongxuan asked.

"Yes." Wu Yuwen had no expression, as if he had expected such a day.

"You are the mastermind who arrested and killed Li Dazhao, arrest you now!" Yang Yongxuan was on the right track.

Wu Yu wenmingbai, he owed the revolutionary pioneer Li Dazhao and other 19 revolutionary heroes of the blood debt, the time has come to repay. Therefore, after arriving at the investigation office, he gave a detailed account of the planning and implementation of the arrest of Li Dazhao and others.

Wu Yuwen's arrest made the secret of the action of arresting Li Dazhao and others, which has not been known for 24 years, open to the world.

One of the 4 main murderers was caught, and one of the other 3, Pu Zhizhong, voluntarily surrendered to the Public Security Bureau. Wen Zhenhai searched all corners of the capital to find out that Chen Xingya and Lei Hengcheng fled to Shanghai in the early days of liberation. He rushed to Shanghai without stopping, and the Shanghai Municipal Public Security Bureau told him that after the town uprising began, Chen Xingya had been exposed by the masses and had been arrested. But he didn't know anything about Lei Hengcheng. They immediately organized a special force to devote themselves to the search.

In October of the following year, Lei Hengcheng, who was hiding under a pseudonym, was finally captured in a small building on Chongqing North Road in Shanghai, and on April 6, 1953, after confessing his involvement in the arrest of Li Dazhao and others, Lei Hengcheng was taken to the execution site for execution.

Wu Yuwen, who is detained in Beijing, is the most serious crime in this case, but because he fell ill before his arrest, in the spirit of humanitarianism, he was not immediately convicted of his crime, but first treated him. However, because of his long hospital bed, he fell ill and died in the detention center in May 1953.

At this point, the arrest of several major murderers who killed Li Dazhao have all received their due fate.
