Zhang Pengyi, director of a Taiwanese martial arts film, died of stomach cancer on September 24 at the age of 80.
Zhang Pengyi, known as "Taiwan Chu Yuan", has directed a number of films based on Gu Long after he joined the Shaw Film Company in Hong Kong. Before his death, he directed martial arts films such as "Midnight Orchid", "Sword Soul", "Chu Liuxiang Finale", "Ancient Sword Heroic Soul", "Thirteen Knives of Water Moon" and other martial arts films, which were quite famous in the 1970s and 1980s. Directed by him and starring Wu Jing, the drama version of "The West Wind of Cema Xiao" has also spread throughout the north and south of the river.
Zhang Pengyi joined the Hong Kong Shaw Film Company in his early years and filmed many films based on Gu Long's novels. Zhang Pengyi is good at using the different angles of the camera and the rapid editing of the lens to render the atmosphere of the sword and light sword shadow, and the martial arts scene is clean and neat. In 1985, Zhang Pengyi filmed "The New Biography of Chu Liuxiang", and created the legend of Xiang Shuai with Hong Kong star Zheng Shaoqiu, leaving a classic martial arts drama.
