According to Taiwan media reports, Zhang Pengyi, a well-known director of Taiwanese martial arts films, died of stomach cancer on September 24 at the age of 80.

In his early years, Zhang Pengyi worked at the Shaw Film Company in Hong Kong, directing a number of film and television dramas based on Gu Long's novels, representative works include the movie "Midnight Orchid", "Chu Liuxiang Finale", "The Legend of the Hero of the Great Banner", "Sword Soul", the TV series "The Legend of the New Moon of Chu Liuxiang", "The West Wind of The Horse Whistle", etc., known as "Taiwan Chu Yuan", and has cooperated with Zheng Shaoqiu and Wu Jing.

The movie "Chu Liuxiang Finale" starred Zheng Shaoqiu and was released in 1983. In 2001, Zhang Pengyi directed the martial arts TV series "Cema Xiao Xifeng", based on the ancient dragon novels "Tianya Mingyue Dao" and "Meteor Butterfly Sword", starring Wu Jing, Yu Feihong and Tao Hong, and has been popular all over the country since its launch.
