He was originally the sixth grandson of Xue Andu, the king of the Eastern River of Northern Wei, because his father died early, he was already a shabby peasant by then, but although Xue Rengui was a farmer, he had great ambitions, he had a good skill in martial arts training from a young age, and he was still a poor egg until he was in his 30s. This may also be "Heaven will send down a great task, so that man will first suffer his heart, strain his bones, and starve his body... And then there's something to be done."
Xue Rengui can become a famous general of the Tang Dynasty, and his wife Liu Shi is a first achievement. Since the Sui Dynasty, the conquest of Goguryeo has always been the heroic dream of the Sui and Tang Emperors, when the Sui Emperor launched three large-scale wars to conquer Goguryeo, and finally when the Sui Emperor was preparing to pacify Goguryeo, the rear was under the control of people with ulterior motives and issued the "Song of Death in the Liaodong Wave", and the Sui Emperor had to return to the dynasty. However, in the Battle of Dafeichuan, Guo Zhifeng did not obey the general's orders, which eventually led to the first major defeat in the history of the Tang Dynasty, and Xue Rengui was implicated and exiled. In 682, the Turkic Ashid Yuanzhen invaded and annexed the prefecture, and then invaded Yunzhou, and Xue Rengui was again ordered to conquest.
