Dai Wangshu, author of "Rain Lane": The relationship between the sexes under excessive force and cold violence is a dead end

If you're traveling to Hangzhou, you can't help but visit the four major museums along the canal in Gongshu District.

Among them, near the exit of the "Umbrella Museum", the scene of a poem is simulated, called "Rain Alley":

A girl holding an oil-paper umbrella, wearing a student outfit, and combing two twisted braids walks in a narrow and deep alley, and the whole picture is full of a Jiangnan mood.

Scene of "Rain Alley" in the Umbrella Museum

"Holding up an oil-paper umbrella, alone

It's like wandering in a long, long way

Lonely rain alley

I hope to meet

One lilac like

A girl with a grudge

She is there

Clove-like color

Clove-like fragrance

Lilac-like melancholy

Lament in the rain

Mourning and wandering

……”

As the psalms are projected word by word on the bluestone road, the tourists are drunk—such scenes, such words, such sorrowful girls like lilacs.

Have you ever been in your life, or in your dreams?

Can you imagine the man who wrote this genius psalm, who was only 22 years old at the time, a young boy. That's called talent, right?

Unfortunately, reality is always very bone-chilling, and the heroine of "Rain Alley" did not marry the poet in the end.

He even committed suicide to get her, but the girl ended up marrying a refrigerator salesman.

Let's go back to the 1920s with questions.

Dai Wangshu, author of "Rain Lane": The relationship between the sexes under excessive force and cold violence is a dead end

In 1927, the 22-year-old young poet temporarily stayed in the good brother's house, and he met his sister.

Just like the feeling that Baoyu first saw Daiyu, he felt that his calm heartstrings were provoked by something.

With the frequency of interaction, he found that his love was just beginning and he was deeply in love with each other.

This poet is the influential Dai Wangshu in modern times.

Dai Wangshu, who was born on the shore of Xizi Lake, was born with a poet's sensitive and melancholy heart. However, he was tall, his face was dark, and he only looked a bit like an athlete. But he only likes to read.

He was later admitted to Shanghai University, and together with his friends Shi Jingcun and Du Heng, he was called the "Three Musketeers of the Scribes".

He began to learn to write new poems during his college years, when he never imagined that he would become a great poet in the future and write poetry for a lifetime.

When the "Three Musketeers" were in Shanghai, they briefly joined the Communist Youth League and participated in underground revolutionary activities.

But eventually arrested for an event and imprisoned for a few days, several people were frightened and found that they were not suitable for revolution. So after regaining their freedom, the three of them broke up and went back to their respective homes.

Not long after, several enthusiastic young people reunited at Shi Ji's home in Songjiang, calling the Shi family building a "literary workshop", determined to "use a pen to fight a world" like Balzac.

They began to translate foreign literature in large quantities and to write poetry.

It was during this time that Dai Wangshu met Shi Jingcun's younger sister, Shi Chenian.

Shi was only 18 years old at the time and attended Shanghai Normal School. Like all innocent and romantic girls, Shi Chennian is lively and cute, and looks very beautiful.

After a period of time together, Dai Wangshu found himself in love with her. Tea and rice are not thinking, and they are overwhelmed.

Shi Chennian

And where does the 18-year-old flower girl know what deep love?

She felt that the other party was a rather talented poet and a close friend of her brother, so she was embarrassed to refuse, but she did not agree.

She occasionally helped copy manuscripts and accompanied poets on walks.

The talent of the young poet, triggered by love, is like the sudden eruption of a silent volcano, warm, thorough, pure, and uncontrollable.

In Dai Wangshu's eyes, Shi Chennian is "a fire-like, eighteen-year-old heart, where there is azure love" and "lips that burn like flowers at the bottom of your body and shine like rubies".

With her girlish naughtiness, Shi Chennian would sometimes allow Dai Wangshu to hug her or kiss her gently.

The two have walked in the woods and had small quarrels like lovers. All this fascinated the poet.

Finally, his masterpiece was born, which is the well-known "Rain Lane", and Dai Wangshu became a famous poet in the world.

To this day, his masterpiece is still regarded as "Rain Alley" created by him at the age of 22.

And the poems "like a dream of misery and confusion" and "a lilac-like girl with a grudge" are the projections of Shi Chenian's image.

But we will find it very strange, why is Shi Chenian obviously lively and mischievous, how can it be completely flavored in the poem?

In fact, this is the result of the poet's rich imagination, so he and Shi Chenian did not come together in the end.

Poets often can't distinguish between fantasy and reality, and they tend to apply an ideal image of the opposite sex to a real person.

For example, Lin Huiyin said that Xu Zhimo did not love the real her, but Lin Huiyin, whom he imagined with the romantic emotions of a poet.

Such a "poet complex" is also established when placed on Dai Wangshu.

However, the authorities are obsessed, and Dai Wangshu is so obsessively in love with Shi Chenian.

In reality, Shi Chennian is not the kind of woman who "has a sky blue heart" and is as melancholy as cloves as he ideally is. She is very realistic, very material, and loves vanity.

Shi Was not initially willing to be engaged to the poet.

Seeing that the four-year pursuit was hopeless, Dai Wangshu actually chose to commit suicide, which frightened Shi Chenian;

Coupled with repeated persuasion from her father and brother, she finally agreed to be engaged to the poet, but on one condition--he had to study abroad and find a decent job when he returned home.

Dai Wangshu is actually very reluctant to go abroad, first, he is already very famous in China; secondly, he thinks that the happiest person is "a person who often lives by the side of his loved ones, parents, and friends."

But for the sake of love, he had to agree to Shi Chenian's request.

Shi Sting

In October 1932, the mail ship Dai Wangshu took the Dartan and set sail for France. Shi Chenian was caught in a pile of people sending off and cried loudly. Dai Wangshu hurriedly wrote a note that read, "Dai, don't cry." ”

He threw the note toward the shore with all his might, the note fluttered up and down, and Shi Chenian chased the direction in which the note was fluttering, reaching out to grab it, but did not catch it, and the note finally sank to the bottom of the water.

It seems to be a symbol of their love —they are like two intersecting lines, which have briefly intersected, then drifted apart, and finally faded out of each other's world.

Dai Wangshu stayed in France until the spring of 1935, where he studied at the University of Paris and the Sino-French University of Lyon.

He often felt very lonely: he missed his hometown, his family, friends, lovers in his hometown; he was exhausted, and there were almost no new poems. If it weren't for Shi Jingcun's constant letters encouraging him and sending him living expenses, he would definitely have returned to China a long time ago.

He didn't want to go abroad in the first place! And the most fatal blow was that he heard the news of Shi Chennian's empathy...

He was eventually expelled from the school and sent back to China.

First of all, because of his "three noes" behavior during school: not going to class, not writing homework, not taking exams; secondly, because he participated in the anti-fascist demonstrations in Spain.

After a month of drifting like a prisoner at sea, Dai Wangshu returned to his long-lost homeland. Although he was excited by the reunion with relatives and friends, the news of Shi Ji's change of heart was also hammered.

After eight years of love, how much did Dai Wangshu pay? In exchange for such a result, this made Dai Wangshu can't help but burst into tears.

Both Shi Jingcun and Shi's parents felt very sorry for Dai Wangshu, saying that they had not fulfilled their responsibilities and did not discipline their daughters, and asked Dai's forgiveness. It is also said that the Shi family has several daughters, and if the poet can see it, it is okay to pick another one.

And Shi Chenian also admitted to her face that she no longer loved Dai Wangshu, and she fell in love with a refrigerator salesman.

The two eventually published a notice in the newspaper, dissolved the marriage contract, and went their separate ways.

Dai Wangshu was deeply hurt by his first love, and he really loved Shi Chenian. She was his "lilac-like" girl, and he had sworn to love her alone in his life.

The poet became even more melancholy and irritable, and his friend Mu Shiying said that he had witnessed him beat 18 wild dogs in a short period of time, which showed how deep the resentment in his heart was!

Previously, Dai Wangshu regarded women as unspeakable creatures like gods, but since being hurt by love, his view of women has changed, he no longer believes in women, and despises them. This led directly to the unhappiness of his subsequent marriage.

Mu Shiying couldn't bear to see his brother always secretly hurting himself, so he comforted him: "What is Shi Jingcun's sister, my sister is ten times more beautiful than her, I will introduce you." ”

In this way, Dai Wangshu met Mu Shiying's sister Mu Lijuan.

Dai Wangshu and Mu Lijuan

The Mu family is well-off, and Mu Lijuan is still the only daughter in the family, and she has been pampered by her parents and brother. She has a good school education, graduated from Nanyang Girls' High School, and is a typical big girl.

And dai Wangshu and 18-year-old Mu Lijuan naturally fell in love, without strenuous pursuit, without the heart of the deer, baoyu's heart lin sister, always just that one person.

In 1936, the two married at the New Asia Hotel on North Sichuan Road in Shanghai.

After marriage, the two lived a plain and happy life, and had a daughter, Dai Yongsu.

Dai Wangshu also wrote poems for his wife, but it was difficult to produce such a classic as "Rain Alley".

With the fall of Shanghai due to the Battle of Songhu on January 28, the couple moved to Hong Kong for refuge. Their relationship deteriorated four years later.

The trigger for a complete split was Mu Shiying's rebellion.

In the spring of 1940, Mu Shiying accepted an invitation from Ding Mo Estate, the leader of the Wang Jingwei clique, to take up a pseudo-post and became a traitor. He was later assassinated by agents of the Kuomintang military command.

Mu Shiying

Mu Lijuan and Mu Mu were very sad when they heard the news, and they were sad and wept. Out of the deep brother-sister relationship, Mu Lijuan proposed to go back to Shanghai for funerals, but Dai Wangshu resolutely disagreed, and said: "You are a traitor sister, why are you crying?" ”

Although his position was correct, it was too impatient for his wife, who had lost his brother.

Three days later, Mu Lijuan returned to Shanghai with her daughter and lived in the mansion at No. 33 Jisifeier Road, which Wang Jingwei gave to Mu Shiying. The couple officially separated.

Later, Mu Lijuan had a new suitor, and she proposed to divorce Dai Wangshu. Dai threatened to commit suicide by taking poison and firmly disagreed with the divorce. And he was really ready to take poison, and was later saved by the people around him.

Dai Wangshu saw that he could not save his wife's heart, so he had to agree to the divorce.

In 1942, Mu Lijuan married Zhou Li'an, the editor-in-chief of Cosmic Wind.

Dai Wangshu, author of "Rain Lane": The relationship between the sexes under excessive force and cold violence is a dead end

In an interview in 1994, she recalled a "cold violent" marriage with Dai Wangshu:

She said that Dai Wangshu usually didn't tell her anything, and the atmosphere at home was very cold. And Dai Wangshu was not polite to her, sometimes rude, she once warned him, you oppress me again, I will divorce you.

Dai Wangshu didn't say anything when he heard it, "He doesn't have any feelings for me, his feelings are given to Shi Chenian."

Later, when Shi Jingcun came to Hong Kong, Dai Wangshu had to stay at home for the night. He was also allowed to sleep in the bed opposite the couple, separated by a nightstand.

At night, Dai Wangshu did not go home, Shi Jingcun was embarrassed to enter the house, only to sit on the living room chair and snooze, Dai Wangshu came back and counted Shi: "Isn't Li Juan equal to your sister?" Why don't you go into the house and go to sleep? ”

In Mu Lijuan's view, it was obvious that her husband had vented the setbacks he had suffered in Shi Chenian to himself and Shi Zhencun.

Mu Lijuan, who is 90 years old and has a long life

Even if this is all One-sided words of Mu Lijuan, it may be biased, but people say that "details defeat love", and Dai Wangshu should not love his wife at all, or not love enough.

In May 1942, a friend introduced a beautiful 16-year-old girl to Dai Wangshu, Yang Jing. The two soon fell in love and married the following year.

This was the poet's third marriage, but it ended in tragedy.

The environment at that time was very unfriendly to Dai Wangshu, he encountered various frame-ups, even went to jail, was also very weak, and suffered from severe asthma.

But Yang Jing not only did not help her husband, but also often participated in dance parties organized by the American barracks and made various dance partners. Sometimes I don't return at night.

This made Dai Wangshu very unhappy, and the couple often quarreled and fought in the middle of the night.

In 1948, Dai Wangshu returned to Hong Kong, and for various reasons, he had to work odd jobs to support his family.

Impoverished, Yang Jing eventually eloped with a young man next door who always came to offer hospitality, leaving behind her poor and sick husband and a pair of young daughters.

In 1950, the exhausted poet died of illness at the age of 45.

Dai Wangshu held his daughter

This is the lamentable life of the famous modern poet Dai Wangshu, who flourished in friendship but failed in love, and was ruthlessly abandoned by women three times.

This has a woman's problem, and of course his own problem.

In the final analysis, although the prototype of the heroine in "Rain Lane" is Shi Chenian, she is more likely to be just a projection in the poet's heart.

His ideal woman must be melancholy (as can be seen in his many poems), but in fact, the real melancholy is Dai Wangshu himself.

He probably wouldn't have figured this out for the rest of his life. He had been looking for the "lilac-like melancholy" woman in his heart.

Dai Wangshu, author of "Rain Lane": The relationship between the sexes under excessive force and cold violence is a dead end

In addition, the wandering and suffering of the chaotic world is undoubtedly worse for the poet who is full of romantic feelings.

He couldn't see the day, he couldn't see hope. You can only boil slowly and wait slowly.

The "Xiao Hong Tomb Pan Kou Zhan" written when he went to Repulse Bay in 1944 to pay homage to Xiao Hong should be the truest portrayal of his heart:

"Walk a lonely long distance of six hours,

Put a bouquet of red camellia on your head,

I waited, the long night long,

But you lie down and listen to the gossip of the sea waves. ”
