In the fifty-sixth year of the Kangxi Dynasty, the Alabutan invaded Tibet, and Nian Qianyao participated in the suppression of the rebellion, and his meritorious service was appointed by Kangxi as the governor and inspector of Sichuan, and later promoted to the governor of Sichuan and Shaanxi, managing the military and government of Sichuan and Shaanxi provinces. After Yongzheng ascended the throne, in order to set an example of loyalty among the courtiers, and because of nian Qianyao's special status, he began to be reused, and his official titles were cumulatively added to the hereditary titles of Taibao and Third Class Dukes, and he was awarded the title of Yuanda General. According to folklore, Nian Qianyao was originally ordered by Prince Yong to suppress the great general Wang Yunyu who was stationed in Xining in Sichuan, ensuring the smooth ascension of Yongzheng to the throne, and it was obviously impossible for Nian to be particularly gracious.

Nian Qianyao was heavily relied upon by Yongzheng, starting from accepting Yun Yu's military power, and later participating in the suppression of the Lobzang Danjin Rebellion in Qinghai, Nian Qianyao further demonstrated his loyalty and talent. The deterioration of their relationship was very sudden. In the autumn of the second year of Yongzheng, due to the victory in quelling the Qinghai rebellion, Nian Qianyao was approved to enter the capital in September. Yongzheng was still in a hurry to look forward to it, and praised it, but after meeting it, it was quite boring, because of Nian Qianyao's various behaviors in the army, it had been spread to Beijing, and he treated himself with pride and violated the imperial power.
During Nian Qianyao's tenure as General Fuyuan, he had too much power and too long hands. Relying on his own power, he imitated the emperor in his daily living actions: when he went out, he used loess to pad the road, officials cleaned the streets, and closed the streets and alleys; the four-clawed dragon was painted in the xingyuan mansion, and the drummers wore satin python robes; when the princes of all the Mongolian tribes met with Nian, they had to kneel down and salute, even the horses and the governor. At the same time, Nian Qianyao secretly and quietly expanded his military and economic strength. As the governor of Sichuan and Shaanxi and the general of Fuyuan, he already had heavy troops, but he still secretly stored chain mail, lead, and other military supplies; he stretched out his hands longer in the economy, and tried every means to accumulate wealth: extorting and extorting local officials, salt tea monopolized by the private state, embezzling official taxes, workers, and silver, fraudulently selling military supplies, etc. In just three years, Nian Tangyao had accumulated millions of taels of wealth. Nian Qianyao's arrogance in the army was only a rumor and was not easy for Yongzheng to grasp, but at this time, there was still no restraint in entering Beijing, which was very different from Yongzheng's practice of rectifying the administration of officials and consolidating imperial power, and had become a potential threat to imperial power and must be stopped immediately. Therefore, Yongzheng seized on some small flaws in Nian Qianyao's official duties, borrowed the topic to play, and gave him several warnings and knocks, and even condemned the order of words used in the compromise. Nian Qianyao had to plead guilty again and again, and tried to pretend to be ill and confused, but Yongzheng's decision to deal with Nian Qianyao had already been decided, and his attitude became more and more severe.

After investigation, all of them were true, and Yongzheng issued an edict to explain the details, repeatedly stating that Nian Qianyao's guilt was self-inflicted, not that the bird was hiding with his bow, and the intentions could be described as good and bitter.
